Ugandan Refuses to be Deported

John Bosco Nyombi is fighting for his life today. As we reported last week, "The British government this week informed Nyombi, an openly gay Ugandan national, that he will deported, despite the fact that the Ugandan government has a strict "no homo" policy."

On Sunday, when Nyombi was schedule to depart for Uganda, he flat-out refused to get on the plane. He was taken back into custody and is being held by authorities.

The British Government is attempting to send Nyombi to a likely death.

I wasn't going to comment on this issue again, but seitan-on-a-stick has decided me. (Yeah, Yeah, I know hitting a defenceless moron who can't string an argument together is too easy a target, but Hey, what the hell, I am feeling mean!)

Let's start on a question of principle on this issue: Who but the people who live in a country have the right to say who can and who can't come and live in their country?

I don't recognise that foreigners have that right, And I don't recognise that illegal asylum seekers have that right either. Nor anyone else in the world who fancies coming to England.

There has been such abuse of the asylum system, (so many people who have been told that claiming asylum is an easy way to get citizenship) and so many lies and so much deceit told and committed by so called "asylum seekers" who, when they are found to be lying, immediately do a disappearing act and are never seen again, that it is hard if not impossible to find out who is genuine or not.

Look at the figures on this link from 2003:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3013615.stm

What we do know is that millions want to come to England from very poor countries, and we cannot take them all, even if we wanted to. We have to have some sort of system to decide who we want to let in.

And we have an independent judiciary (that's a legal system) to do this for us, supported by a very expensive civil service of officials, police etc etc.

But anyway back to the case under discussion.

Let's take a look at more details from Queerty's very own links.
http://www.inspiremagazine.org.....mp;id=2776

First thing that strikes me, is how do we know this man is gay at all? The courts didn't believe him. He has no boyfriend. He hangs around with creepy christian groups.

How does Queerty have such certainty that this guy is telling the truth? I know I don't.

I don't know what the truth is. But I do know that man's case has been heard, rejected BY THE LOWER COURTS, appealed and then rejected by the HIGH court.

“A more humane system would give staged warnings,” Mr. Wooley suggested – Oh really, and how many more people would then disappear!

“In John’s case, he lost his last case in the summer and was told, in a standard general letter, that he must now leave the UK. He was trying to arrange further legal representation. – So, Ok, his appeals have failed, so why didn’t he leave the country???!!!

Nope, this is all very suspicious. Don't believe the lies constructed by campaigns like this.

I lived in Uganda and I am openly bisexual. There are several comments I have on this issue:

-Uganda does not put its LGBT citizens to death
-The large amount of attention for this case will have one of two possible effects: either the government will immediately imprison him because he has become so visible or, alternatively, President Museveni's administration will be too afraid to do so because of the elevated international pressure to do so. Either is equally likely.. so I have very mixed feelings about seeing this story on Queerty so often.
-Ugandans have been led to believe that homosexuality is a western conspiracy and the incredible coverage of Nyombi will do nothing to dispel that considering that he's been in Britain for so long. However, most Ugandans will not follow (or have the opportunity to follow) this story as it will be carefully controlled by the largely state-run media. Even if they had, Bantu cultures (the majority of Ugandan tribes) typically have a live-and-let-live attitude about such things.
-Uganda is a country that is incredibly dependent on the G8 and the UN. If you want to see a positive outcome, write to gay rights groups represented in Africa. Write to gay rights groups in America. Write to your senators and congresspeople and MPs and whatever other politicians represent you. If there is significant enough western pressure about Mr. Nyombi specifically, he will likely live relatively well in Uganda. Don't give up on Africa and the possibility of LGBT acceptance.. after all, look at South Africa.
-This is not to say that I support the UK denying him asylum. I think LGBT issues are an incredibly valid reason to expatriate. I just ask that people reflect a little more about Uganda and LGBT issues in eastern Africa and Africa as a whole, rather than attacking Britain exclusively.

seitan-on-a-stick said "Pommie Bastards! Brits are the biggest racists in the world!"

Is that a racial stereotype?

(And for the record, no one calls us pommies anymore. No one really ever did, except the Aussies).

Tallskin is Churchill-y is Moo is…..another Angry Anglophile for McCain/Palin's coming Great Depression. My Kiwi friend says that they call them "Bastards" as well. Steal a loaf of bread and see if you end up in paradise now, Crook-y teeth, stinky-breath, bad english speaking, stiff-upper lip toffee-talking tories. (With apologies to our Ugandan friend.) BTW – Australians are everwhere here whereas the Brits are the worst of the Eurotrash taking up space in Manhattan and whining about everything being "So fast" Cor Blimey, mateys, we talks like Pirates, we does! Psyche, you're it!

I think there is so much hypocrisy being expressed on this issue. I mean no western country allows uncontrolled immigration.

Certainly not Australia

not NZ

Not the US

and not the other countries of the EU.

Foreskin is Churchill-y's less deranged voice in his head. The largest illegal immigrant group in America is actually Merry Old England (Hello, Nannies?) so be careful when you lead the charge bearing torches against brown-skinned immigrants and others. The Brits have no right to lecture America in our election when you have an unpopular leader, an in bred Royal Family, a coming failed Olympics and an economy tanking faster than Margaret Thatcher's demented memory. And you can keep Madonna, we hate her fake British accent, too. You are all so Eastenders.
