This week the black hat hacktivist group Anonymous group issued an ultimatum to the Westboro Baptist Church: either cease and desist your anti-gay campaigns immediately, or they will come for your, uh, website. Brutal, I know! Westboro has responded. Brutally!
The “damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover,” Anonymous promised in its open threat letter. Which is sort of silly, because Westboro’s “congregation” numbers in something like the double digits, and most adherents carry the same surname. A parking ticket probably has the same impact.
Even Westboro isn’t too concerned about Anonymous’ threats, releasing their own public response. And it’s like, did you fags know God created the Internet for the very purpose of Westboro spreading its message?

I can’t tell who’s trolling who anymore.

God is just using Fred Phelps for comic relief.
Gary B.
Would it be great if they turned the God Hates Fags website into a gay porn site. That would be awesome.

Damn Queerty for no editing feature! Let’s try that again:

I’m pretty sure the original letter from “Anonymous” was a joke but this response is probably the stupidest thing the morons at WBC could have done. Pissing off a bunch of people who are known for having just destroyed a major Internet security firm is not usually a good idea.
Enjoy the results, Phelps. LOL!

Dear Phred Phelps and WBC Phriends,
So we’ve been hearing a lot about some letter that we supposedly sent you this morning. Problem is,
we’re a bit groggy and don’t remember sending it. Our best guess is that you heard about us on that
newfangled TV of yours and thought we might be some good money for your little church.
You thought you could play with Anonymous. You observed our rising notoriety and thought you
would exploit our paradigm for your own gain. And then, you thought you could lure some idiots into a
honeypot for more IPs to sue.
This is not so foreign to us; as you may have heard, we trade in Lulz. You just do not have enough to
offer right now.
While Anonymous thanks you for your interest, and would certainly like to take a break and have some
fun with you guys, we have more pressing matters to deal with at the moment.
But, we will keep this application on file, and will certainly contact you if any openings become
available in future.
Next time, don’t call us. We’ll call you.
Additionally, as your “Press Release” failed to understand: When Anonymous says we support free
speech, we mean it. We count Beatrice Hall among our Anonymous forebears: “I disapprove of what
you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
Do some among our number hate you and your cynical exploitation of your human rights for monetary
gain? Of course. But the MoralFags are also the first to admit that they are, in fact, your rights to
exploit.
In closing, let us assure you: We are not BAWWWING sissies, nor are we afraid of your false god;
we’re just really busy. Stay tuned, and we’ll come back to play another day.
We promise.

Nothing “Christian” about Westboro Baptist. We need a “Fred Phelps Hates God” campaign. That would be closer to a demonstrable truth.

I’m waiting on someone to blow their shit up completely. I know it’s coming. If not, Shirley Phelps pretty much already confirmed that they’ll be drinking the kool-aid next year.
Tom
I had the same reaction as Orpheus, above. I doubted the authenticity of the original Anon message. Although it has some of the usual Anon verbiage, it sounds different in tone. And WBC is so small and not at all reliant upon an internet presence, which would seem to make it a poor target for Anon. Since Anon is not a hierarchy, perhaps this is just one or more junior members speaking out.
EM
Their “http://www.godhatesfags.com/” site has been timing out for me. Hah.
tazz602
“godhatesfags.com” is being very slow and timing out, “godhatesthemedia.com” won’t come up at all. GO GO GO GO.
Only thing is, now we won’t know when they plan to picket.
the crustybastard
@Mike B’s Husband:
The WBC isn’t Christian? Nonsense.
They’re trinitarians, which makes them Christian. Furthermore, presuming that God hates fags is an absolutely mainstream Christian belief.
Other Christians may couch that belief in more polite terms, and they may not go out of their way to harass you with that belief, but most Christians share that belief with the WBC.
That’s why we have always lost, and will always lose, when our rights are decided by the Christian majority.
immalurveu
@the crustybastard: I’m a Christian lol but I’m not against gay folk. Imma be rlly happy if u guys get the gay married. In a church. Yay
Mykey
it’s about time someone hacked their site and put up gay porn, lol!

anything that can ruin Phelps evil clan I love. Shirley took my face pic from one of my pages and copy/pasted my face on one of her protesters, trying to claim I was “converted” to their side. When I went to the site where she posted the pic to complain, they did nothing. I had to get legal with the site and finally, the pic was taken down. I wish they could ban that whole group from all forms of media.

I was curious…I had never wanted nor needed to visit the http://www.GodHatesFags.com website before. I wanted to see for myself. We’ll as of Monday the 21st of February at 5:52 PM, I get the infamous “Failure to connect to web server” error(???) could it be!?…SB :)?
Tom
It was a fake after all. Queerty misleads and mis-reports yet again. Perhaps if Queerty actually did journalism and made an attempt to verify the facts that it reports, it could have been avoided. But Queerty’s business model is based on parasitism.

In fact, something seems to have happened to his web site … it is running like a herd of turtles. By calling attention to themselves, what probably happened is that out of curiosity lots of people (me included) tried to look at Phelps’ site to see if was in fact modified, swamping their server (or their internet connection, depending on which is the bottleneck) with requests to the point where it is overloaded and barely functioning.
This could shut him down for a while depending on his web-hosting
service and the type of contract he has: some place a monthly limit on how much you can send or charge extra if you exceed the allocation you asked for (one outcome shuts him off and the other results in him getting a surprisingly large bill in the mail).
The “hacking” seems to be social engineering a denial-of-service attack by getting too many people to try to connect to his site concurrently, which the Phelps clan helped along by issuing their usual overreaction, thus turning a childish threat into news.
BTW, in case any one is curious, Phelps uses cookies (seems related to PHP) and is using Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS). The value of the Transfer-Encoding header is “chunked” which means the server doesn’t know the size of the file in advance – e.g., if the HTML files are generated dynamically when needed from some other source such as a database.

What sort of church has their primary website named GodHatesFags anyway? And how does Fred Phelps justify his use of non-biblical language and modern concepts. God never mentioned hackers or fops or fonts. Fred is just making stuff up.
But the Bible does say this: He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind. And the foolish will be servant to the wise of heart. – Proverbs 11:29

Oh, Yeah…Why does the website end in com and not org? I thought that “non-prophets'” were “org” for organization, NOT “com” for “commercial”…Does the IRS know about THIS?…ponderous…SB

No. 21 · Scott asked, ‘Oh, Yeah…Why does the website end in com and not org? I thought that “non-prophets'” were “org” for organization, NOT “com” for “commercial”‘
My wiseass guess is that Phelps probably read “non-profit” as “non-prophet” and Phelps thinks he is a prophet. Lots of others do as well, although it is sometimes controllable if they get their medication.
The real answer is that the domain registries do not impose any criteria on who can sign up for what. It usually sorts itself out – if you put your web site in the .org domain, you’ll probably find that people looking for something to buy ignore you.
There is no requirement to have a profitable business to be in the .com domain either – it is just that you generally can’t lose money year after year and stay in business.

I can’t believe nobody says anything about “hacktivists” illegal activities. They are the real lawbreakers. But then again, I keep forgetting that the sheeple deem political incorrectness worse than breaking the law.

Could it be, that God doesn’t like what the westboro baptist church is doing and he called upon Anonymous to stop their hate crap? I’ll bet WBC didn’t think about that. 🙂
Thanks be to God! He/She is great!

So 2011 is drawing to an end. What has Anonymous accomplished? Fred was right…

@Kev C: Ha ha – exactly!

God hates hypocritical pseudo-Christians who claim that He hates fags.
