The gay advocacy group Stonewall Scotland (a subsidiary of Stonewall UK) has removed writer Bill Leckie, a Scottish Sun byline, from its list of Journalist of the Year nominees for next month’s Stonewall Awards after previously defending the selection of the scribe. In 2007 Leckie wrote a piece on drag queen bingo: “Eight o’clock on Wednesday and an army of frighteningly ugly women are pouring into a boozer called Prism for bingo night. Or at least from a distance they LOOK like women.” Scandal! Leckie has also written about America’s crapshoot gay rights policies and a piece of out rugby player Gareth Thomas.

I have a good friend (yes, we’re both gay) who used to refer to drag shows as, “The interruption of the evenings entertainment.” I still use this quote regularly. TAKE THAT, STONEWALL SCOTLAND!

Stonewall UK is the UK’s version of HRC. The difference being is that despite their general uselessness, HRC supports LGBT marriage equality.
Stonewall UK does not support LGBT marriage equality. It argues that we should be satisfied with Civil Partnerships (which offers most but not quite all the rights of marriage – particularly relating to pensions).
Its chairman Ben Summerskill was caught at the Liberal Democrat Party’s annual conference (the LibDems are in the governing coalition at present) arguing against marriage equality.
Stonewall UK is facing a MASSIVE backlash from the LGBT population at the moment as a result of Summerskill’s treachery.
Neither Stonewall UK nor their annual awards are going to survive unless Summerskill is sacked and Stonewall UK starts supporting LGBT equality.

@Mark:
Origionally HRC was opposed to fighting for marriage, saying that we should be concentrating on other issues. It was massive pressure from the base, donors etc.. that forced them to change.
Remember, HRC is an organization dedicated to lobbying the Federal govt. If DOMA, and DADT, the two federal discriminatory laws are repealed, HRC becomes Useless, so them not being overly focused on Marriage is understandable from a selfish/no integrity viewpoint.
