This seems to be the month for sort of coming out as bisexual during press junkets. First Harry Styles told us gender isn’t important to him when picking out a potential partner, and now Aussie actor and total babe Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent, The Giver) has played a similar card.
Following a fan question in which he’s asked the “three things you look for in a partner,” he quickly responds, “male or female? They’re very different.”
Except they don’t seem to be all that different to Brenton — the only thing he can come up with is whether or not they have peanut butter in their cupboard. Is that a euphemism that we’re missing?
Here’s the interview. Fast-forward to around 6:30 for the exchange.
And now here’s a better look at Brenton, just ’cause:
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
Trolling, until further clarification.
And why do we have to paint ourselves as so thirsty all the time?
degaulle
He didn’t come close to coming out as bi. If anything he seemed like he misread the question. Desperate much?
Xzamilio
Sigh… just stop with this.
aliengod
Who cares! Next…
broadshoulder
bisexual today….just a matter of time before he comes out as gay…

Whut?
Someone needs to get a job… in fast food and make room for a talented writer at queerty.

The explains just a bit more about the ending in Maleficent. 😉
Welcome out!

Note to SELF:
Do NOT do it. Do NOT give in to another Queerty click-bait:
1) Is he gay or not?
2) What will it take for Joe Jonas to stop all the subtle BS and suck a dick?
3) Straight guys are not that straight and want to blow you article?
4) Did Tom Daley slip away from boyfriend Dustin to give the “lance” to Joe Jonas?
Do not do IT! Do not DO it! Do NOT do it! ok..maybe just this last time
IcarusD
I adore him and would love for him to come out as gay or bi, but this just seems a little too vague.
mydude
It’s been a week or two and none of his reps have clarified, and neither is he.
Yes, it’s vague, but Channing Tatum (and others) has had rumors for years and stories from various places on the internet regarding his bisexuality and he never denied or clarified them nor did his team.
Silence speaks volumes to me in this regard.
Aromaeus
@broadshoulder: Screw you and your bi erasure.
Apparatus
He’d make a perfect Bel Ami model. He’d fit right in with all their model-pretty tanned smooth boys who just love having fun in the sun and then screwing later that afternoon. If you’re into that kind of thing, that is. Ahem.

Most straight-identifying men are capable of having a sexual experience with another man. It’s just that men don’t talk about it. If they’re horny, they’ll do it and then keep quiet about it.
The only time men brag about their sexual experiences is if it’s one man trying to impress another with his sexual skills in conquering women. Then, it becomes a sign of virility.
Virility is everything. It’s a sign of manhood, of life…of continuing the species.
Lance Mullholland
@PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID: RIGHT?! Because most gay man are sexually immature and have the discipline of a pencil.
This kid is too young to have anything of importance to say about anything.
It is wrong for anyone over the age of 30 to even fantasize about him – any more than it would to be to fantasize about the teenaged boy living next door. It’s not socially mature or responsible.
That’s why gay men go to jail, get caught in public bathrooms ( e.g. George Michael), and feel the need to walk down the street in a glitter jock strap for Pride.
Catch my drift, fellow homos ? If you have a stack of Tiger Beat magazines (and they don’t belong to your daughter), you’re f*cked up !
SteveDenver
There is a difference between coming out and being badgered or hounded. “Vaguely” doesn’t fit either category.
How about this: Brenton Thwaites hasn’t said jacksht about his sexuality, but he is mesmerizingly handsome, very talented, and could potentially be a FRIEND of the GLBT community if we weren’t so intent on trying to get into his pants.
NoCagada
@Lance Mullholland: How do you go from 30 year olds fantasizing about teens to George Michael who was caught with adults (and the public thing, I DON’T support) back to Tiger Beat? The most twisted thing I see in your post is your line of “logic”.
Bryguyf69
@Lance Mullholland: Oh really? So fantasizing is now a psychopathology or somehow morally wrong? Who made you the thought police? Care to cite a study showing that ephebophilia, in of itself, is somehow detrimental? Additionally, care to cite the psychological mechanism which somehow hits at age 30, where one would no longer find teenagers attractive? Or are you arguing for the artificial suppression of natural attraction, much like that demanded of gays by homophobes?
YOur entire post if full of megalomaniacal judgement, homophobia, ageism and just plain ignorance. For example, the claim that public solicitation is a major reason “why gay men go to jail.” So how many cases have there been? Care to back up that claim with data? And that glitter jock comment is just pointless.
Lance Mullholland
@Bryguyf69: Oh, dammit – I FORGOT! Do whatever you feel. Whenever you feel it. Nothing creepy about chasing kids.
Everyone I knew who did that is dead now: sex, drugs, or alcohol. Take your pick.
“Moderation in all things” is stupid thinking…
Bryguyf69
@Lance Mullholland: You know what’s really harmful to the gay male community? Judgmental and ageist attitudes like yours. I’ve worked with SAGE, a social service group for older gays. Clients tell me that people like you — who want to restrict people in categories and dictate what is age-appropriate — that cause much of the depression among gay elders.
Hermes
@Lance Mullholland: Where are you getting off?
1. Brenton Thwaites is 25 years old, not 15. At 25 I was ordained, had performed several (straight) weddings, and various other clerical duties, including being involved in the burial of a 16 year old suicide victim, run a parish, run part of a business, been directly involved in one successful federal senate race and one successful governor’s race and raised tens of thousands of dollars for several charities. In addition I was serving on two boards as religious representative, one of which oversaw WIC in our cluster of counties. I did not have my graduate or post graduate degrees at that point in time, but knew what was in the future of my intentions. I had been making sexual decisions since I was 13, so almost half my life when I was 25 and I did not then and do not now think that it was any of anyone else’s business. Your comments deny the rights and responsibilities of an adult man for no reason other than your ageism and you should be ashamed.
2. With the note that I am NOT a psychologist (in fact my advanced degrees are in STEM related fields), I am certified in my home state and two other states as a counselor. I am very interested in what psychopathology you think is inherent in finding a 25 year old man attractive. It sounds to me like a version of the syndrome that led people to condemn Bill Clinton, not for infidelity, but for Monica Lewinsky’s age. There are age of consent laws, Brenton is FAR beyond them, in many states and most countries has been beyond them for almost a decade and is not in need of the paternalistic protection of “vaguely” self-hating bigots.
3. Fantasies have not been and never should be illegalized. ACTIONS are sometimes illegal, but fantasy is not. Even if Brenton were 15, people fantasizing about him should be their unimpeachable right.
Regards.
MarionPaige
Brenton was very attractive in the movie “The Signal”. There is a cute scene in which he checks to see if his penis is still there – it’s the best part of a movie that made very little sense.
Jonathonz
It seemed like something he said was edited out. It wasn’t a smooth transition from the male or female comment to the one about peanut butter. It seems like they wanted to make us curious about his possible bisexuality without actually confirming it. He is very cute and seems smart and nice. He just might be a big star soon.
dhmonarch89
when comments like this are made, why doesn’t the interviewer simply ask- ‘are you saying you’re bisexual?’ It would save a lot of time and since Brenton brought it up, the interviewer can’t be chided for trying to out someone.
Xzamilio
@Lance Mullholland: Well, that’s stupid. The real reason most gay men go to jail, get caught in public restrooms and other acts is primarily because of the stigma on homosexuality, especially with gay men. We’ve made strides, but let’s not revise history or pretend like the progress equates acceptance. My brother in law who knows I am gay and is fine with it just told his sons after hearing them joking about kissing each other yell “Don’t you ever say that again!! Boys don’t kiss boys… boys kiss girls!!”
Maybe some gay guys like seedy places and crazy sex, but for some of us, the seediness was all we had to explore our sexuality. We sure as hell couldn’t just walk around expressing ourselves without fear… and here in Texas, it’s still practically 1960

You’re probably the same person who wrote the Harry Stiles post. I found neither of them particularly funny so i guess i can understand the anonymity. Beyond that, i just don’t like the message of scrutinizing people, particularly men, on what they say as proof of homosexuality or bisexuality. I think it’s crude and not unlike a bully calling someone a gay as an accusation and insult. I find it so interesting this post goes up the same day as that “Is that guy gay” chart. I didn’t find the chart all that funny but at least the message was clear, it’s not really your business, stop caring so much.
MarionPaige
As I recall, Brenton did some tv movies with gay themes in Australia. So, he’s probably used to being asked if he’s really gay or, he’s at least prepared to have some clever response to the question. If there was even a hint that there was something to “imply” that the guy was gay, he probably wouldn’t have suddenly been fronting at least three major hollywood movies.
And, BelAmi model Ariel Vanean would make a nice Brenton substitute.

Fuck you Queerty! You got me all excited and then crushed it with your stupid click-bait bullshit. Fuck you fuck you FUCK YOU.
jwtraveler
Never heard of him. He’s cute, but why do I need to know who every gay (or bisexual) person in the world is?
Chad
@Bryguyf69 and @Hermes: Thanks! Couldn’t agree more!
Evji108
I watched the clip. She asked for three things he looked for in a partner and then he said: male or female? It is unclear what she meant by partner and unclear what he meant in his answer. The next bit is edited out and we jump to peanut butter. Definitely not not enuff info to draw any conclusions. He seems totally straight to me. Nice friendly guy.
jmmartin
@broadshoulder: As did Gore Vidal, I strongly object to the use of labels with reference to anyone: gay, straight, bi, &c. It sounds like someone’s grocery list, including Twinkies. No person is a label. Buddhism teaches that labels and categories are inherently hurtful. Vidal said he longed for the day when all of the maps are seen as such: they are not the territory. For example, he said, homosexual should describe something you do, not what you are.
pscheck2
It’s interesting that most of these twinks never hint they are gay! But they do hint that they are Bi, so I guess that makes them half-gay? On well, it satisfies both camps?
Andrew
Who cares? Whether he sucks dick or not doesn’t make any difference in his career. It doesn’t make him a better or worse actor. Oh and if he does turn out to be bisexual it’s not like he’s going to be bending over for any of us commoners anytime soon. IT. DOESN’T. MATTER.
ShowMeGuy
At least he’s pretty
Daggerman
…the answer was not inferred properly. He meant that if you are male (you are looking for a female partner) and if you are female (you look for a male)…simple. He did not say, precisely…for example.. ‘I personally don’t mind having a male or female as a sexual partner…’ It’s Obvious this human race is just dying to label somebody!!
pscheck2
Read-reading these postings, I get the impression that most of them are posted by gay men. If correct, it surprises me the ‘tone’ they take with regard to this interview! Why bash those of us who speculate that he might be gay (or at least, bi!)! What’s wrong with our take on this interview? It obviously is not harming him, and, in fact, might help him in his career! Also, most of these interviews are conducted with both the interviewer and interviewee knowing the type of questions going to be asked and areas where the interviewee does not want to go! (Of course, this interview could have been done without those constraints). I feel there is a lack of pride of who we are and what we are. therefore, we want to ‘save’ these poor twinks from exposing themselves as being members of our ‘society!’ Those worried about this possibility, should relax, for if he has talent, no amount of ‘exposure’ will matter!
musicblind
What is with the gay hating?
And how is finding someone over 18 attractive? This guy is 25 for crying out loud! To the person saying that, let me guess… you’re one of those fem bottoms who claims to be straight acting and only likes ‘real men’ and not ‘twink’ kids?
Anyway…
I didn’t get to see the video because MSN has taken it down, but I wouldn’t take this as solid confirmation either way. If he is bisexual, I would love for him to come out because it would be a very positive thing for gay teens to see a leading, successful, and handsome actor who is also openly gay.
kevininbuffalo
@Hermes: Well said, thank you!
Daggerman
…he’s got a very cute face but awful body!!!
