After the backlash from Dan Cathy’s admission that Chick-fil-A was “guilty as charged” when it came to opposing marriage equality. Even Ed Helms told the chicken chain to cluck itself. Ed Helms!
Then, on the Thursday afternoon, the company issued a statement on its Facebook page explaining that, “‘going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”
“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston,” Menino said Wednesday. “You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion. That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

Good for him… that’s what happens when you’ve got a long-term mayor, who doesn’t
have to give a darn. Why would he want to welcome a controversy in a place that has
been at the forefront of marriage equality?
Let’s hope Cambridge follows suit…

You said it Mr Mayor. We are tolerant and will not allow those who are not. We are inclusive except those who we do not include. Am I the only one who sees the hypocricy?
Michael
So even a potential ally has to have a hidden agenda to support the cause? Way to alienate people, queerty.
Cam
Also, Chick Fill E CLAIMS that they are going to back down from their behavior….
Yes, just like Target promised they wouldn’t donate again to the anti-gay political group/politician, and then they went and did it again.
They have denied supporting anti-gay politics in the past and then it turns out that they donated over 2 million to stop gay marriage. They’ve lied before and they’re doing it now.
Good for Boston’s Mayor, Discrimination is going to hurt their bottom line.
Danny
@Rick N: Standing up to an organization that openly and happily discriminates is not considered intolerance. What are we suppose to do – welcome bigots with open arms to all aspects of our supposedly civilized society? I hope you can understand why that makes no sense. Would your definition of tolerance and inclusiveness mean that we should also welcome a business to our community that donates money and weapons to al-Qaeda?
Global Traveler
You can’t “agree to disagree” with these people. “Agree to disagree” only works when both parties have an equal risk at stake. That is not the case here. Were CF to prevail, then we lose our rights, respect and some level of our humanity; they risk nothing. We are not trying to wrest anything away from them.

Got Mor Bigot?

Nice try bigot. Tolerating Intolerance, is to agree with intolerance.
If you “Tolerate” people who want to sell women into slavery, then you are supporting slavery. Your argument is the same idiocy that the Mormon Church tried to defend Prop 8 and that bigots have used for years. It has never worked.

Is it just me or is the first sentence not a complete sentence…seems to be a whole phrase missing…
Paul
Queerty, a great article until that last sentence. Shame on you! Menino has been a strong advocate for our community for years. Joke or not, it went over like a fart in church.
HM
Queerty….I thought it was a funny line. The bug up my ass hated it too, but I’ve been ignoring him for years
Steve
@Rick N: Yes.

Good for Mayor Menino! I know it’s a serious subject, but when it came to the quotes, I could’nt help but read them in my best Mayor Quimby from the Simpsons.

Lol kunty perry tweeted a pic of chick fil like a week ago and how it was the greatest food ever and her bff perez hilton ripped her a new one over it! fucking hilarious really, never thought id agree with pigez on anything but good for him.

You do know “Boston” Market is no longer a local Boston establishment. You would be hard pressed to find a location in Boston itself, nor would anyone in the city actually flock to the one or 2 stores near them.
Jack
Mayor Menino has been mayor for so long and has such a strong backing that he has zero political risk for stating his view. He has been a longtime supporter of gays and lesbians. As usual, Dan Avery’s reporting is inaccurate in its notion and if intended as a joke, it falls flat. Dan Avery needs to be fired.
