The Olympics captures the collective imagination as stories of perseverance inspire millions. Or maybe all that triumph helps you realize you could try to be a little nicer to Kirby from accounting. If Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu can do this, surely you have what it takes to finally agree to have that drink with Kirby some Friday after work. At least he’ll quit bugging you about it. Just one drink, Kirby, and no snacks.
We, too, have been wrapped up in the Olympic drama, much of which has been focused on out Team USA athletes Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy.

And while the latter will not depart South Korea with any medals around his neck, he’s still a winner. (Seriously, think about all those endorsements he’s snagged.)
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
But we find ourselves celebrating Gus Kenworthy for a slightly different reason today; exactly one year ago, the world was gifted this video of Gus eating a hotdog seductively.
Related: Gay Twitter has fallen for Olympic luger Chris Mazdzer. Hard.
Happy anniversary.
He BGB
Why be vulgar about his eating a hotdog? He’s a hero.
Tombear
Gus is such a beautiful man. I am sad he won’t medal.
mz.sam
Although Gus didn’t medal we’re so incredibly proud of his Olympic accomplishments and the worldwide televised kiss with his boyfriend is the icing on the cake. Also if I were Matt I’d gladly Dijon his Olympian hotdog.
charlie_jackpot
I’ll put my cynical hat on…..Maybe if he had focused more his sport than his insta feed he might have got a medal
ElPillo
I was thinking that. He’s spent a lot of time being famous and about.
swellster
You of course realize he was boarding with a broken thumb and a pretty painful deep thigh bruise? Why are you people so critical of someone who is one of the 10 or 12 people best at something in the entire world? He also has a silver medal from Sochi. What have you ever done?
rdujetz
charlie-jackpot, maybe you should get out on a ski slope and try to do what Gus des, or put in the years of training that he has before you get so bitchy.
DCguy
This is the soft trolling from the anti-lgbt accounts. Anytime somebody is out of the closet publicly they come on and complain about them getting attention.
Lacuevaman
Bingo Mr. Jackpot!
Lacuevaman
guess he has to do something for attention since he came in 12th place…..
rdujetz
Jealous ( and bitter) much ??
mujerado
Yeah, because skiing with injuries and still being the 12th best in the world is such a nothing accomplishment. Go hide in your cave and shut up.
Lacuevaman
What do you think he will do next? drag with Ru Paul?? or maybe become a power-bottom on Sean Cody??? ….regardless, he better let those injuries heal.
DCguy
AAAANNNNDDDD ……ANOTHER new account comes on to attack any lgbt person that’s publicly out of the closet.
Seriously, tell the RNC to send better trolls, you guys are TERRIBLE at this.
Lacuevaman
DCGuy: huh? are y’all so weak and sensitive to think that any folks “not-in-lock-step” with your views make us/me less queer supportive? I guess it’s an easy place for you to put us/me. God forbid queers like us/me comment on fame whores…. Please, let’s move on from Mr. Kenworthy and what he can and cannot do!
Ukin Blome
Why does vlad only hire halfwits to troll for him?
Onecaddy13
Oh my god, let’s move on already! Enough of the two girls. I find both Gus & Adam extremely disrespectful and rude. I guess politics were more important than the Olympics that’s why they’re coming home empty handed. I’m just upset they used this platform to air their greviences. Like I stated, I ignore the ignorant, but never disrespectful. There are many other ways to get your point across, the Olympics was not one of them. I stand up for my rights as a gay man, but never act out like those two did. They’re just new to the gay scene and have it much better than we gays of 30-40 yrs. ago did. Do some research and see what gay men and women went through and then speak. They flaunt their gayness too much. We’re here, we’re queer is not new boys, been here much longer than you have. And to Queerly, I like your mag but, those two are not the only 2 queers in this world, let’s move onto new business.
Mack
Jealous much? Must be a Republicon.
Juanjo
Someone has their knickers in a twist.
rdujetz
Onecaddy- Geez- lighten-up, dude !
Tête Carrée
“having it much better” means being able to “move on” and stand up for your rights in a more public way than we could before. It should also mean not having to put up with being referred to as “two girls”. You want them to kiss Pense’s bum? He would take us back 30-40 years if given the chance. You’re happy to be on your knees “respectfully”? “They flaunt their gayness too much.” You mean like calling other gay men “girls”? In the old days, we just called that being queeny.
Goforit
LOL. You find them “disrespectful”? I believe that is the whole point of not meeting with Trump or Pence. Good for them for standing up for their beliefs. Any of us that actually fought for our rights in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s are proud that they have taken up the mantle of fighting for full equality. Oh I am sure that the two minutes it took for them to thumb their noses at Trump and Pence distracted them so much that it negated twenty years of training. Silly argument. Is there anything that you are in the top 10 or 20 of worldwide? Not the “right platform” to air their grievances? Well unlike Trump and Pence that have every camera in the world on them 24/7. These young men have 2 weeks every 4 years to be heard. So this is the perfect forum for them to speak.
Tobi
@Goforit — +1, albeit at the time I went on my first march and was spat on and had a brick thrown at me (and that was just the police!) I thought we were fighting for the right to be fabulous. In hindsight, of course, we were fighting for the right to be ordinary.
@Onecaddy13 — spend your life on your knees if you want to, grovelling for approval from those who would do you harm, the rest of us are happy to bite the hand that hates us!
startenout
Let’s see, where to start. First, Adam Rippon IS bringing home a medal, so get your facts straight.
Second, sorry that you feel like men being openly gay and proud and speaking their minds somehow steps on your 40 year old memories. I thought the goal was to build on the accomplishments of the people who spoke out and threw bricks, but apparently, you want everyone to just shut their mouths and accept the pittance they’re given.
You have choices: don’t read articles about people you dislike for their being open and forthright OR catch up to history, because 40 years is a lifetime to be that bitter.
DrewD
Yes, we went through a lot 30-40 years ago (still have the scars) but why not let them celebrate? You should be happy they can.
Ukin Blome
Thank you for uniting us russian troll
batesmotel
He’s sexy, seems super nice, but not too bright when it comes to other things outside of winter sports.
Jaxton
I am so sick of the Gus Kenworthy promotion bandwagon. He’s not as worthy as some claim.
dwes09
Ah! Because being among the best in the world and having the willingness to compete with a recent injury is obviously not as worthy as being self-absorbed regressive snowflake! Winning past Olympic medals is not as worthy as licking brown starfish of those who hate you, like you regressive snowflakes do!
I get it…being a regressive bent on turning back the progress of LGBT people makes you worthy, but being someone of more reasonable and progressive politics who is also among the top in his field of endeavor is not worthy. Makes perfect sense!
Tobi
The whole of Queerty is sick of you, Brian, and trust me, no-one here finds you worthy at all.
DCguy
And one of the other trump supporting accounts attacks any out of the closet lgbt. We get it.
baal61
I’d rather see him suck a cock’ than ground up tongues balls and lips.
Kieran
You can tell he’s a pro on more than just the slopes.
ElPillo
I do think it looks like he can swallow deep. Bravo boy
BigDaddy58
I totally agree with Onecaddy13, These guys would have come out of there black and blue, if they had made it out at al! Had it not been for the guys of prior generations that suffered the mental and physical abuse and pathed a way forward so they can be who and where they are (and are not) today!
Respect is a learned and earned behavior…
Tête Carrée
What do you want, a medal? Yes, lots of guys (and gals) suffered abuse but if you think Pense or the people who would have turned them “black and blue” deserve respect, you probably did nothing at all to “path a way forward”.
dwes09
So you would respect them if they kissed the ass of a man who wants to turn back the progress we have made? And you have lost respect for them because they made their position clear? Do you even know how to think? Doesn’t really sound like it.
We did not fight for gay rights so that people like Kenworthy would feel it is proper to bow down to scum like Pence and Trump. I, for one, as a gay man active in the political struggle of the 60’s and beyond commend him.
I guess the world is truly backwards to regressives!
Goforit
Comrade BigDaddy58: Please get a better Russian to English dictionary. The phrase is “paved a way”, not “pathed (sic) a way.” Silly trolls.
Tobi
@BigDaddy58 — spend your life on your knees if you want to, groveling for approval from those who would do you harm, the rest of us are more than happy to bite the hand that hates us!
