We thought we’d see what the kids are watching these days and tuned in for a rousing episode of MTV’s trl. Well, it certainly was a memorable moment, for we got to see the super extra special trl debut of Nelly Furtado‘s new video, “Maneater.” As they do, MTV only gave us but a brief glimpse before cutting back to the studio, where the audience cheered and whistled for Ms. Furtado’s accomplishment.
Um..right. First, we definitely prefer Hall & Oates song of the same title. Second, from what we saw, it was a mediocre, slightly disturbing effort from a girl we hardly recognize anymore. Take a look at the complete video (yes, we’re better than MTV) for yourself, after the jump.

It sounds like a bad version of “Maniac.”

I agree that Nelly’s style has changed over the years, but she made a huge jump from her first and second album too. And also, she was on the Get Ur Freak On Remix and the song Ching Ching by Ms. Jade, so her getting into a poppy hip-hop isn’t completely unexpected!

The video isn’t great but how can you not love that song? Once again, y’all make me feel like my taste isn’t discriminating. Ms. Furtado was my soundtrack this summer.

This song is alrgight, the video, egh, but the rest of the album is fantastic.

I absolutely LOVE this song, one of the best on the album!!!

No thank you to Hall and Oates “Maneater” and I bet the video for their song is less apealing but to each their own. Nelly’s beats appeals to me and many people the world over. And it’s cool to see a Latina girl (so multi-talented too) making to the top the charts again.

I don’t think she was born to be a dancer. She only has a handful of moves… both in this video and in her Promiscuous video. The song is sooo great, though. It sounds quite Britney-like (i.e. a la Stronger)

Maneater is fantastic, has been a huge hit all over Europe. It’s a song for grinding hips and popping shoulder blades to – what’s not to love!

This song was released in the UK and got to number one over a month ago. It completely rocks, though the video is scary and relatively mediocre.
To be honest though, I really dislike her follow up (or the first song released over in the US) Promisc
