What would you do if you saw a pregnant woman harassed for giving her baby to a same-sex couple?
Well, we know what you’d do, but what about a bunch of straight people in Plainfield, New Jersey?
ABC’s aptly named What Would You Do? (not to be confused with the early ’90s Nickelodeon classic of the same name) set up an elaborate scenario to find out.
And maybe it’s just good editing, but the results were encouraging to say the least. Many bystanders chimed in to either lend support to the couple and pregnant woman, or tell the instigator to sit down and mind her business.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

What a load of utter crap.

@ParisNat: You must have a miserable life if you hate absolutely everything. It’s very sad.
Cagnazzo82
Um this is Plainfield, NJ.
I’m not sure what impression people who live outside of Jersey have, but this is essentially the reaction you’d have in pretty much Anytown, North Jersey.
My state is filled with progressives and liberal republicans. Not exactly backwater enough for this kind of an experiment to play out with anything other than ‘wtf are you doing, and leave them alone’.
Markajv
To be honest MOST people act or at least think to act this way. The problem is all we see in mass media is the negative people. A ruse to keep the citizens angry about something. This subject or any other that causes a commotion. The media is told what to tell us and it’s all to keep us fearful or become fucking helicopter parents or be afraid of an escalator. These “Social Experiments” you see on YouTube are almost always showing the “Hate” in society which is a very small percent compared to the caring and compassionate. But the latter doesn’t sell papers or ad space.

I lived in Joisy for a very short time and can attest that there are many jerks like that woman there (which is why I lived there for a SHORT time).

Jersey? Teresa Giudice’d be flippin’ the table at that bitch if she weren’t in the pen!

@ParisNat:
Enough about you. What did you think of the video?
Celtic
I read in several different reports this was all staged.
Evji108
@Celtic: Yes, that is what they said, if you had read the intro to the videos.
dean3000
How many time can the internet cry wolf before we no longer click. I think I’ve reached my limit on non stories
LubbockGayMale
I wonder how many ‘instances’ are on the cutting room floor???? If they shot this in the South, I doubt the reactions would be so positive!
Maude
@dean3000:
Just asking the question is sufficient, but then they wouldn’t have a TV show.
There will always be individuals, and/or groups that think they get a boost in their own stature by ‘bettering’ themselves over those who can offer no resistance.
ParisNat
@jwtraveler: I lead a WONDERFUL life. Thanks for your sollicitude – NOT!
ParisNat
@Glücklich: Waste of space! But very American…

@Sluggo2007:
Iv’e lived in this town my whole life. Nice to see people standing up for others.
But I agree, not every part of the state (or town) is like this.
I’d like to think that the good people outnumber the hateful ones, and
it’s just that the hateful ones just talk louder.
dvlaries
What Would You Do‘s premise of staging controversial, hot-button issues in the public sphere in order to provoke emotional reactions and score ratings, in an age of increasingly lax concealed- and open-carry laws impresses me as a powder keg just waiting for the right match. One more reason I have no use for ‘reality’ programs.
mezzacanadese
Anyone who is as hateful as that woman would probably be happy living in Russia, where 80% of the population is anti-gay.
BigG
These shows are so Fake
captainburrito
@Celtic: Some of them might be. I mean surely people must recognize Tracy by now. But i did know someone who was featured in one of the stories and he was genuine.
scotshot
@ParisNat: You cared enough about this “utter crap” “waste of space” “very American”, item to make three – count’em – three comments about it. Thanks for the laugh.
Markajv
@scotshot: Hey Mr. Owl? How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop? – “Uh, one, Uh, two, Uh, 3……3 it take 3 licks to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop”
omacdonald
Disappointed. This is a fake and a set up hidden camera show. I think Queerty put this up as click bait. I thought it was a cell phone recording but turns out to be contrived. Ugh!
scotshot
@Markajv: So says the fourth grade dropout.
Glücklich
@scotshot:
Take your pick. In the United States, there 20+ towns named Paris in the following states: AR, ID, IL, IN, IA, KY, ME, MS, MO, NY, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, WI

What happens when the Left can’t find acts of political incorrectness they insist are occurring in everyday America?
Why, they create them, of course.
scotshot
@Glücklich: You passed geography in grade school. BFD. What does that have to do with my comment.
scotshot
@BJ McFrisky: We don’t need to create acts of political correctness, HeteroTrolls perform hate acts every day. Clerks refusing to marry people, gays beaten every day, bigoted police shooting 12 year old boys, laws enacted to prevent people from voting and laws allowing gays to be discriminated against – the list is endless. Indeed it’s in reality people like you who continue to perpetuate lies intended to oppress people. Fail.
Markajv
@scotshot: You know, I was on your side right?
scotshot
@Markajv: Apologies, my reading comprehension is not always 100%. 😉
Markajv
@scotshot: No apologies necessary. The way you wrote “3 times” just made me think of that commercial. Social media is not the best way to convey a lot of emotions. I was just making a joke.
BJ McFrisky
@scotshot: I do believe you listed every means of exaggerated/fabricated victimization known to gay liberals. Oh wait—you forgot the war on (transgendered) womyn. Gotta be thorough.
scotshot
@BJ McFrisky:
Are you a self-hating gay, or HeteroTroll who displays excessive interest in gays?
(yawn)
Evji108
There is enough nasty hating stuff going on in the world without creating Fabricated Victimization Encounters with fake haters. I dislike this kind of waste of time and energy in order to generate outrage & negativity. We have enough real issues to deal with and life is too short to give our time to people who make up fake disputes in order to draw attention to themselves.
Evji108
@mezzacanadese: The woman isn’t hateful, she’s an actress playing a hateful part.
Evji108
@jwtraveler: No Parisnat is right, this phoney staged victimization encounter is utter and complete nasty pile of crap. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Glücklich
@scotshot:
Lighten the fuck up. The implication was ParisNat is more likely a Francophile living in one of the Other Parises, or thinks having spent a semester abroad makes him a citizen of the world. We all know the type.
Have a drink. Have two or three.
LibraOracle
If they keep torturing and discriminating gays,LGBT might become the majority of the world’s population in the future generation.?
“Everything we reject or dislike will always be around but the things we embrace and support don’t last long” It’s a natural law
Please keep hating us!?
Daggerman
…to be honest I would have laid in to her, verbally if I had of been present in that restaurant, how dare she dictate a load of garbage like that, but if I was actually one of the married gay men..oh dear I feel she would have got a faceful of food…..
