The Eighth Avenue offices of Lucas Entertainment were packed with gay men on Saturday night, but for once everyone kept their clothes on: It was the 40th birthday party for the company’s founder, Michael Lucas—who’s known almost as much for his larger-than-life personality and controversial views than the scorching hot adult movies he produces.
The Daily Beast‘s Jason Bellini emceed the shinding, welcoming friends, family, co-workers and porn stars, who all shared memories about Lucas’ outspokeness, determination and—who knew?—generosity. (Theater critic Adam Feldman told a story about how, when he was suffering from throat troubles, Lucas rushed over with a litany of herbs and tinctures.)
There were also gentle barbs at the Russian-born porn king: Bellini joked about Lucas’ legion of lawyers, saying he had seen two of them chatting at the party. “One said, ‘I want to fuck that porn star.’ And the other replied, ‘Out of what?'”
Others raising a glass included Lucas’ husband, Richard Winger; Boy Butter founder Ayel Feldman; Lucas stars Adam Killian and Vito Gallo; Lucas’ brother, Pavel; and their 91-year-old grandmother, Mariam. (Though we’re not sure she knows exactly why her grandson is so famous.)
