What Do Maine + Washington Have In Common? Lying Advertisements

The flurry of ads in Maine in Washington is a stark reminder that, uh, the future of gay partnerships in four percent of America is going to be decided in November. It’s also a reminder that, hey, misinformation from gay rights opponents is still a problem.

Above, Catholic-backed Stand for Marriage Maine group has alleged guidance counselor Donald Mendell (Jeremy Hooper has more on him here) warning parents that voting “No On 1″ will force homosexuality on school children! Nevermind that the example Mendell cites has to do with a California school district creating a more tolerant school curriculum, not passing marriage legislation.

And then there was Washington’s new ad, filled with Bible themes and absolutely no truthful argument.

It’s ironic that these crackpots have a problem with commitment and monogamy but seem to have no problem bearing false witness.
