Andy Dick violently attacked after show, “We thought he was dead”

Bisexual comedian Andy Dick was violently attacked in New Orleans over the weekend.

The assault happened last Saturday after he had finished a show at One Eyed Jack’s in the French Quarter. Dick was outside waiting for an Uber at around 2 a.m. when a man approached him from behind.

“Andy was standing in front of the club when the guy cold cocked him while he was talking to someone,” Dick’s booking agent, Robert Couvillion, explains. “Andy’s head fell into the wall, then fell into the motorcycle, then cracked on the cement.”

The 53-year-old comedian was knocked unconscious for about 15 minutes. An ambulance took him to a local hospital, where he was treated in the ICU for head injuries.

“We thought he was dead,” says Couvillion. “It was really bad.”

Dick had been scheduled to perform a second show at One Eyed Jack’s but it had to be canceled. Couvillion says he will probably never book another show in New Orleans again.

He is currently recovering at home in Los Angeles.

CCTV caught the whole thing on tape and NOPD later arrested 46-year-old David Hale in connection to the attack. He was was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for second degree battery and simple battery on Monday.

In 2009, Dick told New York Daily News that he identified as a “try-sexual,” saying, “I’ll try anything. I really have tried everything, except nothing with animals. There’s only room for one animal. That would be me.”

He added, “I say, ‘I’m bi, my love knows no gender,’ and the straight community says, ‘Oh right, that’s just a cover-up – you’re gay!’ And the gay community says, ‘Yeah right, that’s just a cover-up – you’re gay.’ They both want to push me gay.”
