Cheslea Manning is moving ahead with her transition, petitioning a court to have her name formally changed from Bradley.
This is only one step in what is sure to be a long and complicated process. Changing her name is one thing; but military prisons don’t provide any services related to transition, since trans people are banned from service. Federal civilian prisons are required to provide treatment.
But it’s not like they can just throw her out of the Army, what with the whole incarceration thing. Chelsea’s been sentenced to 35 years, which would put her in her early 60s by the time she’s released.
“Given the way that I feel, and have felt since childhood, I want to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible,” she wrote several months ago, so we assume she’s still pursuing treatment. At the time, her lawyer promised to pursue legal avenues to force the military to provide treatment.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Chelsea’s other plans include enrolling in pro-law and poly sci college classes this fall. And she just secured a new legal team to help with her appeal.
Fox News, by the way, is still calling Chelsea a man. And we are still calling Fox News a bunch of dickbags.
