French Senate Passes Gay Marriage, Couples To Wed By Summer

french-kissFrance is nearing the finish line in its race to marriage equality with the French Senate approving the bill to legalize gay marriage and adoption today.

The AP reports that this latest development in the nation’s long, tumultuous road towards equality puts the bill on track to become law by summer:

Both houses of Parliament will now take up a second reading to consider minor Senate changes to the bill passed in February by the National Assembly, also controlled by a Socialist-led majority.

Earlier this week, Uruguay became the 12th country to recognize gay marriage, while opposition in France turned violent with reports of a man brutally beaten in an homophobic attack.
