Macanao Torres, a Spanish gay adult performer who worked with numerous studios over the years, died by suicide at his home in Murcia, Spain on December 29. He was 35 years old.
The Spanish-language site Shangay reports that Torres, whose real name was Pedro Oliver, jumped off the roof of his apartment building. Shangay adds that Torres left the industry in 2016 after a decade of appearing in films. When he retired, he also announced he’d been diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma and that doctors expected him to live for only 10 more years.
Torres was vocal about how studios handle HIV-testing, fighting for more transparency and better adherence to health policies.

Well, the article does mention the diagnosis with a rare form of lymphoma. Being given “10 years to live” essentially means “up to” ten years, and lymphatic cancer is liable to spread quickly and cause considerable discomfort.
I have two friends who killed themselves after lymphoma diagnoses, one who chose to do it after liver cancer got too difficult, and another who chose to not be treated anymore after three bouts of AIDS related systemic fungal infections. I suspect the levels of pain and the discomfort of ongoing treatment (that offers little life extension) might make death seem very attractive.
I’m glad to not see the typical excoriation from the right leaning twits who seem to think that sex workers all kill themselves (you know who you are) and are all just drug addicts anyway, but they probably didn’t get home as early from work.

Both of my parents died from cancer in the last 15 months. Seeing what my mom went through in a futile effort to beat stomach and brain cancer made me really think twice. Getting an extra few months of horrible quality life is so not worth it. I was actually grateful that my dad’s was so aggressive and fast moving that he didn’t have to make the choice of treatment, he was gone less than 2 months after diagnosis.
If there is a reasonable chance of overcoming it, sure, treatment is a great option. But if the writing is on the wall, I’m definitely going with quality of life, not quantity.
But if I chose to end it, throwing myself off a building would not be the way to do it.

Well, he was already living under the knowledge that he was going to die. He took his own life instead. We don’t know if his disease had spread quickly or not.

RIP. He was one of the original Jalif crew. Kidd Chocolate, the Cuban beauty who was also a Jalif find and a talented poet, died a few years back too.

Jumping off a bldg to meet your end on the concrete below is just about the worst imaginable way to go IMO. It has to be a special kind of pain where that is attractive.
