Chris Barron probably wasn’t expecting his appearance on Dom Lemon’s CNN Tonight to be a pony ride through the country, but he probably hoped to leave the studio with most of his vital organs intact.
Related: Does This New York Times Article Portray Trump As Pro-Gay?
NYC Council Member Corey Johnson took one look at Barron — founder of conservative group GOProud and leader of the new “Gays For Trump” campaign — and decided it was time for a feeding frenzy.
Related: This Guy Was Dumped By His Boyfriend For Supporting Donald Trump
“I think it’s funny that just because [Trump said] the four letters LGBT that [he is] somehow the champion of the LGBT community,” Johnson said.
He met today in New York with a thousand evangelical leaders – a who’s who of the far right – people who have made a professional career of demonizing and denigrating gay people. Donald Trump is against marriage equality, Donald Trump says he wants to remake the Supreme court and make it even more conservative. Donald Trump has never been there for the gay community – he is a megalomaniacal, arrogant crazy person.”
Later, Johnson dug up an old Tweet of Baron’s that called Trump a sociopath, and Barron replied: “Hillary Clinton is a bigger sociopath than Donald Trump will ever be.” As the awkward and rather convoluted debate went on, Barron closed by saying, “I know the left wants to scare gay people into not even thinking about voting for Donald Trump…If you want people to have equal rights and dignity, then talk about combating radical Islam.”

Dammit… why did the idiot Trump supporter have to be the hottest one?? Sigh… that’s life. I’d toss him one. I would need to put a bag over his cognitive dissonance, though.
DCguy
Trust me, this guy is getting paid, he used to hate Trump and suddenly writes articles supporting him RIGHT after Trump gets lambasted for being anti-LGBT?
And again, the ONLY thing that the right wing gays have other than the payment is to try to say “Ok LGBTs please ignore the fact that right wing Christians have been attacking you politically in this country for years, that Right wing Pastors have been instrumental in supporting votes on laws in Christian countries in Africa to legalize the murder of gays, but please ignore that, because look, over in some other foreign country, these people hate you!
So the GOP has as part of their platform the removal of lgbt civil rights, but we’re supposed to vote for them because they hate Muslims? The right wing Christians like Ted Cruz, and the people Trump is courting are no different. They all want to harm us.
Again, groups like Log Cabin have gone from being a gay group trying to get the GOP to accept us, to a gay group that supports republicans and tries to cover for the GOP in the gay community, and finally their last transformation, to an anti-gay hate group that is actively lying and covering up the shocking level of anti-lgbt hatred in the GOP hoping to trick us into supporting a party that has our destruction as one of their platform planks.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
No he didn’t get “ripped to pieces” nor as per JoeMyGod “eviscerated” And it should’ve been easy. I wish you’d stop with the uncritical petty bullshit cheerleading. The only substantial take home I got from this is the embarrassing hypocrisy on both sides apropos dodgy money before human rights

Cory Johnson can’t rip anyone to shreds. An out-of-towner elected in Chelsea only because he was gay. And too dumb to use a condom.

Trump decided to meet with 400 anti-LGBT conservatives. Wait, I’m so confused. I thought Donald loved the gays more than Hillary. Do you mean he wasn’t telling the truth? Let’s see all of the self-hating gays saying Donald is better for the LGBT community explain their way out of this…

The guys who vote for Trump are the same that put “whites only” on their Grindr profiles.

I think the question needs to be answered. what’s the difference between Hillary accepting millions of dollars from countries that kill gay people and Donald trump meeting with religious leaders who condemn gay people ?
skilos
Chris Barron is an embarrassment to the gay community. I almost wish Trump would win (Please NO), just to see Barron first in line at the gallows.

I was expecting a bloodbath, but there was no “ripping to pieces” happening on this video. The Trump supporter brought up some very valid questions that werent adequately answered by the Hillary supporting councilman or Don Lemon. We should all be skeptical of Hillary Clinton because she has proven over-and-over to everyone that she is easily bought and has no integrity. Is she a better choice than Trump… probably yes. But the country is going to lose regardless of who is elected.
dwes09
Why is it that when centrist and left wing gay spokespeople speak it is with reference to facts, figures and logical constructions; yet when the gay right responds it is with speculation, unfounded accusations, unrelated attacks and the logical expertise of a 10 year old? This applies both to Barron and to those who are supporting him on this board.
Barron keeps saying “well guess what,” “and guess what” before making claims not backed by any factual support. He keeps deflecting from real issues and actual results of actions to the presumed “existential threat” or “radical Islam”. And he totally ignores the fact that Trump intends to undo the marriage equality rulings through Supreme Court appointments. He makes no distinction between the facts referred to by his opponents in the discussion (as the moderator clearly thinks he is a fool) and his baseless beliefs about Trump. He excoriates Clinton for supporting DADT, ignoring the fact that it was seen as a pro-gay action prior to its institution as if everybody knew the future. DADT was seen as a way to avoid dishonorable discharge for gay and lesbian people in the military. That it did not work out that way does not change the intent of those behind it. As for the Defense of Marriage, we see that people change. Only the right wing sees change and progress as weakness.
SportGuy
This really isn’t news as we all know Raci$t support tdump. So what else is new.

@Xzamilio: You’ve GOT to be kidding me. NO ONE SHOULD EVER FUCK CHRIS BARRON. Under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Not even for money.

dwes09
@zooby: Barron tries to show trump is better than Clinton, but fails. He seems to think that Trump adhering to anti-discrimination laws in his businesses constitutes a great record on LGBT rights. And he seems to think that Trump actually meeting with the movers and shakers on the “religious right” (who have been the intentional inspiration for anti gay rulings and violence in Africa, as well as anti-gay violence in the US) is not an indication of Trump’s position on LGBT rights whereas imagined invitations to radical Muslims on Hillary’s part proves her evil intentions. Maintaining historical attitudes towards the USA as a country of refuge is simply not proof of anti gay intention. Welcoming rabidly and vocally antigay movers and shakers into you tent is; this is obvious and cannot be denied.
Kieran
What’s definitely good for gays is that we finally have a GOP Presidential nominee who is openly appealing to gay American voters. Trump doesn’t have to do that. But he’s doing it in spite of the fact that it must really irritate homophobes across the country (think Cruz, Santorum, Huckabee). Trump treating gay voters like they matter is historic for a GOP nominee. We should be applauding this development. Instead, it seems so many gays on the old Democrat plantation refuse to take “Yes” for an answer. Nobody says you have to vote for Trump, but at least recognize that Trump is trying to change the anti-gay tone of the old GOP Establishment.
DCguy
@Kieran: stated: “What’s definitely good for gays is that we finally have a GOP Presidential nominee who is openly appealing to gay American voters. Trump doesn’t have to do that. But he’s doing it in spite of the fact that it must really irritate homophobes across the country”

Why are you lying? How is he appealing? He saying “The gays love me” and then saying he will appoint judges that will take away lgbt rights, and meeting with groups of homophobic preachers. Nice try.
dwes09
@gskorich: “what’s the difference between Hillary accepting millions of dollars from countries that kill gay people and Donald trump meeting with religious leaders who condemn gay people ?”
This question is easily addressed:
First of all, gay people are killed regularly in many countries, even the US. The Clinton Foundation (whihc is not Hillary as either an individual or as a political candidate) has accepted $1 million dollars over 13 years from Oman (where homosexuality is not legally punishable by death, and is not often prosecuted): not a whole lot of money. The Clinton Foundation has similarly received $1 million from Morocco in an attempt to get a conference located there (kind of like countries competing for the olympics by supporting individual sports and building facilities). Most indicting is the acceptance of $25 million over the course of 13 years from Saudi Arabia. However over the past 15 years SA has reduced mandated punishments for homosexuality from death to prison and whipping. Still horrific, but the king walks a fine line between his desires and those of the religious hierarchy, especially in the wake of a 1979 uprising/coup attempt by clerics and fundamentalists. The claim by Rence Prebus that the foundation has taken funds from Yemen is a lie.
Keep in mind that for many many years and especially during Republican administrations these three countries have been lauded as great friends of the US and valued partners in the “War Against Terrorism”. For the right wing to demonize Clinton because these monarchies have given money to support the Clinton Foundation goals (stated as improving global health and wellness, increasing opportunity for women and girls, reducing childhood obesity and preventable diseases, creating economic opportunity and growth, and helping communities address the effects of climate change) is disingenuous at best.
By contrast Trump has welcomed as supporters people who wish to undo all gay rights advances. Many of them wish to recriminalize homosexuality, and a few wish to institute the death penalty for it and recently encouraged Uganda to do precisely that.
So, we have lies and unfounded accusations against Clinton vs. actual, personal courting of people who want to see us in prison of killed on the part of Trump. The difference is clear.

Baron is proof that looks and brains don’t always coexist. I hope whoever gives him a BJ scrapes the hell out of him with their teeth.
dwes09
@Kieran: Trump has condemned the slaughter of gay people in Orlando. but out of the other side of his mouth has clearly stated that he intends to see marriage equality rulings rolled back. As far as i am concerned that trumps any lip service he has cynically given in an attempt to get votes.
dwes09
@dwes09: Should mention that I do not support Saudi Arabia, and feel it is an embarrassment to our country to consider them an ally. But they are, and not too many years ago a Republican president was photographed holding hands with and kissing the princes of the House of Saud: something Obama never did, but then his money did not come from oil or war/adventurism.
Mo Bro
Some of us choose to vote with our brain rather than our sexuality, so voting Republican isn’t anti-gay, it’s pro-America.
@Kieran: Hear, hear. Well put.
wld8hrt
Of course it is important to combat the terrible treatment of gays in other countries. But, to start, we need to combat the way we are treated here. Trump is not interested in that. The only reason he brings up the Muslim countries is to fan the flames of the Terrible Turban Terror Panic (TTTP) gripping our less educated countrymen. Not that the order in which you say the letters is important but it’s pretty much always been LGBT. Mr. Trump (“LBGT”) cannot even get that right. Why? Because he never talks about it and knows nothing about it.
Mr Trump knows and cares as much about us as he does about looking like a human-colored being. Is OLAM (Oompa Loompa Anal Mouth) curable?
lelandjr
@zooby: And the guys who vote for Hillary are the same rainbow flag waving hypocrites that bash blacks and Jews in private.

Kangol
@Kieran: He’s appealing to white people. Is that all that matters to you? He’s also meeting with hom0phobic white Christian ministers, but the pro-white appeal makes it OK. Right? /snark/
dwes09
@Mo Bro: “Some of us choose to vote with our brain rather than our sexuality, so voting Republican isn’t anti-gay, it’s pro-America.”
Given the actual facts regarding the condition of our country (economically and socially) under Republican administrations in the 20th century (especially those within the last 40 years) voting Republican is both anti-gay AND anti-American. Voting for the interest of non-pleurality people, be they ethnic, affectional, or otherwise defined minorities IS very much voting with one’s brain. Voting based on myth and accepted lies is not.
dwes09
@lelandjr:
” And the guys who vote for Hillary are the same rainbow flag waving hypocrites that bash blacks and Jews in private.”
Got any statistics to back that up, or are you one of those who assume anything that pops into your head is real?
Those that bash blacks and Jews, be it in public or private are precisely those to whom Trump appeals. Even the comments on this board make that very obvious. And given that blacks and Jews (and labor unions, and women, and latinos) overwhelmingly support Clinton, your assertion makes no sense at all.
niwde
Lol, OK I get it. So all the Right Wing Republican Trump Supporters here are trolls just like their leader. I guess this is what people do (troll some gay site) when their whole ideology is based on ignorance, hate, outdated mentality, and nativism.
Luckily, the site and most of the readers here are smart enough to know the difference between intelligent and dumb ideas.
Your constant trolling will not sway intelligent and logical people to your side. It will just emphasize your stupidity.
strippedpoker
This is the thing that, as a gay man, PISSES me off about the LGBT community.
Why can’t someone be conservative AND proLGBT rights?
dwes09
@niwde: Some are trolls. Some are simply mislead. There is no way to claim that Trump will not work to undermine marriage equality based on his actual statements and promised actions. There is no way to claim one is an old school fiscal conservative based on the actions of the republican party over the past 30 years. Being mislead does not make one a troll.
Trolls say things like “Hillary will have us at the gallows first when her homophobic Muslim refugee cohorts come swarming in.” And then begin personal attacks when asked to support their statements with facts.
dwes09
@strippedpoker: Some are, but not many. and they are generally not singing the praises of Trump. My Republican friends (pretty much all heterosexual) are appalled that he is the presumptive nominee, and not yet sure what to do about it. But supporting Trump indicates a lack of understanding of how tenuous LGBT rights still are in this country. Especially on the part of LGBT people.
batesmotel
LOVE Trump. ?? And it has nothing to do with him showing solidarity to the gays in a speech. Loved him since the beginning and so have many other gays I’ve talked to. There are more gays and people supporting Trump than those who are anti-Trump seem to be in denial of. They’re just not telling you because the radical anti-trump groups are bullying, intolerant, attacking and negative to anyone who supports him. But the votes this November that put him in office will be the slap in the face that wakes them up to the truth. This country is a mess and he is the lesser of two evils when it comes to choices.
Hussain-TheCanadian
@strippedpoker: That’s an excellent question to ask the “Conservative politicians” and/or the sheeple that follow them.
Hussain-TheCanadian
@Mo Bro: Can you please list one policy position that Trump will use to “clean up” Washington? – I’m not asking for much, just one policy, step by step (two or three steps are fine too) on how he’s going to do that.
Saying “Will make America great again” and “we have to do something” are not acceptable answers.
dwes09
@strippedpoker: Obviously there are traditional conservatives who support marriage equality, both gay and straight. But the Republican party cast their lot with the religious right years ago, social conservatives who do not support the full enfranchisement of LGBT people. Local and national party platforms have made that quite clear over they years, and make any sudden changes in tone very suspect.
Additionally the republican claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility is not borne out by reality. They simply have a different idea about what they are willing to spend money on, and spend a hell of a lot of it. Take a look at the history of taxation and its effect on the middle class as well as the economy as a whole to see the failure of modern republican ideology. As crazy as he was, Nixon might have been the last Republican president to really understand the role of the government and government spending in supporting the American People. Reagan just lied about it, and the right worships him!
dwes09
@batesmotel: “But the votes this November that put him in office will be the slap in the face that wakes them up to the truth. This country is a mess and he is the lesser of two evils when it comes to choices.”
Actual polls and other indicators do not point to Trump getting the votes this November. His approval has been on the wane, and likely will continue to be. As for this county “being a mess”, actual economic indicators pretty much give lie to that notion. As with the rest of they world, economic recovery has been slower than hoped, but stronger than a lot of other nations. Crime (which the right constantly screams about) has been in decline for over 20 years. Even terrorism (until Orlando, and the motives for that are clearly complex and not yet sorted) has been on the wane.
Trump is not at all the “lesser of two evils”. What you have is a self serving blowhard who has clearly been lying about a lot of things vs. an experienced politician who has been reviled by the right which has never managed to produce any real evidence for the allegations they have leveled at her. Not a great choice admittedly, but Hillary will continue the recovery and keep us respected in the world. Trump will be a loose cannon and the international community is already horrified that he has gotten this far.
Brian
What does Corey Johnson think of the Clinton Foundation and the serious allegation that it accepted millions of dollars from countries that execute gays? Not nice, Corey.
dwes09
@Brian: They are allegations based more on a desire to denigrate Hillary than on fact (especially baldfaced lies told by that Prebus character). Serious only to those who cannot see things in perspective and don’t understand the complexity of international affairs. How about the truths (as opposed to allegations) that the countries from which the Clinton foundation took donations have been considered “valuable and loyal” allies by the state department through several administrations?
Clinton foundation taking donations is little different from pride celebrations taking donations every year from tobacco and alcohol companies that directly result in death and disease to a disproportionate number of lgbt people.
tricky ricky
@joeyty: oh goody. a right wing nut job troll for trump spewing the latest right wing nut job meme. amazed you didn’t try to shame the gays into agreeing with you to deport/kill all the muslims.

Please! Trump even stumbles saying “LGBT”. Err “LBGT”. Err BLT…” I’m willing to bet he couldn’t even identify what each of the letters stand for. Which is why it’s just “the gays”. But if you believe that Trump is the best choice for women and that Latinos really love him, then you’re certainly crazy enough to believe he cares about gay issues.

These pathetic arguments from BOTH sides are why I am sitting this election out. I have said before and will say again we ALL lose this time around party affiliation be damned.

As much as gay people scream for diversity and acceptance, many, if not most, are one one mind set….like a bunch of Lemmings following the leader over the cliffs to their eventual death.
Kudos to Corey for standing up the the masses. I for one am a big supporter of Donald Trump, and will be voting for him this fall!
Wake up, LGBT community. Stand on your own and see the truth. Hillary is not going to do a dang thing for us. All she wants is your vote!
Remember when being gay meant being different? Standing apart from the masses?
Bring that all back and vote for Trump!
zooby
@joeyty: What about Obama? He is not going to be in office any longer. We are talking Trump, and you have no way of defending his “he is great for the LGBT community!” argument, right? Just admit it and move on!
@lelandjr: Source? Or are you pulling that out of your ass? Cause Trump fans are SO open-minded, right? Self-hating dumb ignorant gays voting for Trump … can’t get any worse than your kind.
zooby
@desertguy: And Trump is the guy who WILL do something for us or anyone but himself? Please.

@zooby: But I consider Obama a pretty gay-friendly President, and even he deals with homophobes all the time. A President has to. That’s my point.

@dwes09: They fully intend to, absolutely. And you know as much. And if you weren’t so fearful of non-Democrats and so self-hating (feeling you need the punishment from Muslims since Christians don’t do that anymore) you’d see some of truth before you.

I didn’t see anybody get ripped to shreds here. What is clear is that there will be uncountable muslims harassing gay people on the streets and in the institutions in this country in a very short time if Hillary is able to enact her pro-muslim, anti-gay immigration policy. Then, all these girls ^ will be screaming and crying about haters and about discrimination. Wait until the Muzzies file an injunction against the offensive gay pride parade or want to close down your local bar. The institutions will not protect gays because the political class has failed in this country. The government, the police, lawyers, activists will not be able to do anything to stop the assaults on the gay community from the muslim invaders. The time to stop the muslim invasion is NOW. Save your own asses girls and do it now. Demand Hillary give the money back to the hate group (saudi arabia), reverse her policy on muslim immigration and apologize for putting gay lives at risk, maybe then we can vote for her, until then, NEVER HILLARY.
MediaGuy
@o.codone: Dude, you’re right. I don’t see any clear path for Hillary unless she addresses the problem areas you have identified. I mean, Muslims tried to shut down Oktoberfest in Munich last year what do we think they’re going to do with Pride and other celebrations of gay life and culture? We are setting ourselves up for massive trouble if Hillary actually brings more violent anti-gay Muslims into America. Are we so self hating that we are going to let her do that to us? After Orlando this issue has come into very clear focus. I am not voting for Hillary right now. I had some suspicions about her, but now I know her policies are going to directly hurt (even kill) me, so no, no thanks.
joeyty
@MediaGuy: She’s useless on that issue. If she becomes President, my only hope is that she’s been a lying politician and has no real intention to bring Muslim refugee homophobes swarming into the U.S. She just wanted the votes from self-hating gays and women who are in ignorance over the European rape crisis.

D Trump is a salesman. He’ll wheel and deal his way for our votes. He panders to the extreme evangelicals, and at the same time to the LGBT community. And play the “hate and fear” card to both sides. I’m not surprised many of his supporters ARE, hateful and fearful people. If he was running for office in Mexico, he would be pandering to the cartels and citizens with the same zeal and tactics, making them hate and fear the USA. Of course, he would be the white knight that would rescue them! He’s incredibly talented at BS’ing! Probably not a very good trait for a US President, though.

LOL!!!! And again, thank you for proving my point. LITERALLY the ONLY argument that the Log Cabin anti-gay sellouts have is vague threats of foreign boogeymen.
Funny how they leave out that every single Republican Candidate for President said in no uncertain terms that they would go after lgbt civil rights. Isn’t that “Harassment?”
Again, Log Cabin has gone from being a gay group pushing for membership in the GOP to an anti-gay hate group directly supporting a party platform that is dangerous for LGBTs

And here again you have the anti-gay Log Cabin hiding of facts in order to fake their position. The EXACT SAME way that the Mormon church failed when they tried to use the basic point of “By not letting us attack you, you are being intolerant, and yet you want tolerance!”.
So Log Cabiners, if you have a REAL position why to you keep claiming that this is merely a difference of opinion on things like zoning regulations. No, this is you wanting to support a party that has as part of it’s platform the destruction of lgbt rights in America.
You aren’t open-minded people fighting for diversity, you are no different then women voting for a law to make rape legal and claiming that voting against making rape legal is being an intolerant lemming.
Look, no offence, but the Mormons were far better at slipping in the fake language than you are, you aren’t fooling anybody.

The comments here prove just one thing and only one thing and that ‘thing’ is what we gays have been demanding for ourselves since the beginning of the conflict between straights and gays…..That we are no different than them. that except for each of our natural sexual instincts we are a family bunch of convoluted people with the same notions or different notions… all a part of one human family we are at once, a mix of all things right, and a mix of all things wrong..and we won’t ever agree 100% on anything.AND THAT AINT NEVER GONNA CHANGE!

Sadly, the Republican Party continues to court the same crowds that would treat us as the “other”, not worthy of happiness, dignity, or in some cases life. This is readily demonstrated by the fact these so called religious types want to take away our right to marriage, deny us publicly available services, and preach even our extermination (as shown during the Orlando massacre). Seriously I cannot fathom supporting a political party that reaches out to this kind of crowd that seeks to do our community such great harm. So you’ll have to excuse me when I do not support the head-of-the-party-elect Trump despite what he says about his “support” for the “LGBT…BLT…BVD…whatever…the gays, yeah that’s it”.
