You’ve likely heard by now that Donald Trump
canceled postponed a planned visit to Denmark after Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said “Greenland is not for sale” when he expressed interest in purchasing it.
“Thankfully, the time when you buy and sell other countries and populations is over,” Frederiksen told Danish media this week, adding that, just to be totally clear, “Greenland is not Danish. Greenland belongs to Greenland. I strongly hope that this is not meant seriously.”
But it turns out Trump was being serious and he didn’t appreciate Frederiksen’s flippant response to his proposal. So he canceled his plans to see her.
….The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct. I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!

The New York Times reports:
The cancellation was a rare snub of Denmark’s head of state, Queen Margrethe II, who had extended the invitation to the president and would have hosted him and the first lady. News that Mr. Trump is not coming “came as a surprise,” the Royal House’s communications director told the state broadcaster, adding, “That’s all we have to say about that.”‘
Coincidentally, former President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Denmark in September. We’re sure Trump’s decision to cancel his trip had nothing to do with that.
Now, the tweets…
Trump canceled his visit to Denmark after their Prime Minister said Greenland wasn’t for sale.
Hoping also to avoid further face-to-face meetings, Xi Jinping declared Hong Hong “unaffordable” for Trump, and Justin Trudeau declared he’d never sell Vancouver Island at any price.

Donald Trump canceled a meeting with Denmark because it refused to sell Greenland to him, and it wasn’t even the most embarrassing thing he did today. #DisloyalToTrump

It’s remarkable that feuding with Denmark because they won’t let him buy Greenland is very low on the most bizarre moments of Donald Trump’s presidency.

Donald Trump canceling a visit to Denmark because they don’t want to sell Greenland to him is the greatest Veep episode that never aired.

Dear America, don't worry we (Denmark) won't hold Trump against you, but we're counting on you NOT to re-elect him in 2020. #GreenlandIsNotForSale
