Paul Rudd Is Giving Gay Marriage A Try

It’s not exactly the sexy pairing we would have asked for, but we’ll take it anyway: Paul Rudd is pairing up with Steve Coogan to play a same-sex couple in the new film An Ideal Home.

The premise is cute enough: Coogan plays a celebrity, while Paul Rudd is his bashful partner. The two bicker constantly, but when Coogan’s grandson unexpectedly turns up, their lives are turned upside-down and you can probably see where this completely predictable premise is going.

And while the cast is intriguing, our eye was caught by the director: gay filmmaker Andrew Fleming, who you may know for his Dick. (That was a film about Richard Nixon.) We also have him to thank for The Craft, a movie that manages to be extraordinarily lesbian without ever featuring any actual lesbianism. He also helmed the pilot Difficult People, featuring America’s screaming sweetheart Billy Eichner, our obsession Julie Klausner, and dangerous twink Cole Escola.

And hey, speaking of 90s films, remember the last time Paul Rudd was gay? It was in The Object of My Affection, in which Jennifer Aniston falls in love with him over the objections of Allison Janney. Oh man, what a cast.

In an interview a few years back, Paul said, “I remember doing interviews for The Object of My Affection, and people would say, ‘What was it like to kiss a guy?’ Like it was such a shocking thing. I said, ‘How many times does anyone ask, You had to shoot somebody, was that weird?”

He added, “I love gay guys. I feel pretty gay. I’m certainly not the most macho guy in the room.”

Love you too Paul!
