love never dies

PHOTOS: 25 vintage pics of male couples in love

We don’t know much about these couples. We don’t know their names. We don’t know how they met. Or how they made each other feel. We don’t even know if they ended up together. But we do know some things…

We know that they probably lived by a certain code, so they could keep each other safe. They probably lived their authentic lives in the shadows, only showing their true selves to a trusted few. And they most likely had a deep love for one another to risk taking such intimate photos.

We know that photos like these could have had major repercussions if they landed in the wrong hands. These men could have been thrown in prison, deemed mentally ill, beaten, or even killed. And we know that these couples were brave and lived in an unjust time.

And, of course, we know these couples are beautiful.

Some don’t look vintage but the others are cute.

Very nice! I was with my husband 57 years, married 15 years.

Wow, how phenomenonal is that. Congratulations. Love. We need more posts like this in the world.

Great! I am with my husband now for 30 years. And that feels so good.

Since men were much more likely to show physical affection for each other back in the days before intense homophobia, a lot of these could very well be just straight buddies or brothers, though some are gay couples too

It’s interesting how this “They’re just buddies” line is only trotted out when showing male couples but never heard when it’s male/female couples. Where are all the “their friends” pontificating when showcasing heterosexual pairings?

I’ve heard the argument before and I think it has some legitimacy, but if you take a good look at these pics again, we see an awful lot of dreamy, “sweetheart” poses for men who could have just as easily attempted (or been instructed to enact) a wide range of more restrained, portraiture poses for posterity’s sake.

I agree with “Bill” above—-it’s true that brothers and relatives and even friends were much more demonstrative back then, and also photography and posing for pictures was much less prevalent, so the posers were often “exaggerated” in their posing for a picture. I think a great portion of these vintage pictures are not gay relationships, but friends and relatives. I know that many of my older relatives kissed each other on the mouth—- even men. But I will have to admit that some of the old pictures are a little “extreme,” even for relatives, so they probably WERE lovers or had a relationship.

The guy on the right in picture 3 really did it for me.

Picture 4 are clearly twin siblings, not sure why that one was added.

The last pic is two guys looking for wives.

      Thank You!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful collection of photos of men showing affection and love, whether romantic or not. Love is love.

Some commenters are making huge assumptions about these pictures. Let’s just enjoy them as beautiful pictures. We don’t really know these people. Therefore, we do not know whether they may, for instance, be twin brothers just because they favor each other. We don’t really even know that any of them are romantically attached. Let’s just enjoy the sparkling lack of homophobia expressed by the guys in the photos, and the bravery they show for being recorded expressing their affection for each other.
