Ricardo Rosselló, the mired governor of Puerto Rico, will resign under mounting public pressure.
Officials close to Rosselló have said he will resign later today, delivering a farewell address in the afternoon. The governor has faced increasing scrutiny after 900 pages of private chat and text messages leaked to the press, and revealed Rosselló using homophobic and sexist language, and mocking the victims of Hurricane Maria.

Known as “Telegramgate,” the scandal implicated Rosselló. Among several offensive messages, he used the term “c*cksucker” to describe political opponents including journalist Benjamin Torres Gotay and former Puerto Rico Senate President Eduardo Bhatia. Protests of historic proportions ignited in the streets of San Juan demanding Rosselló leave office, with celebrities like Ricky Martin participating.

Rosselló had previously apologized for the remarks and said he would not seek reelection. It appears now that he has changed his mind.

I thought this guy was resigning because he misappropriated funds to rebuild Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Did I miss something? That’s way more important than any stupid homophobic comments he made. He did made crude comments in chats – about women, and obese man and, apparently, Ricky Martin. Lots of officials resigned over this.
I get that this is a gay-focused website but to say he resigned over homophobic text leaks is like saying people are going after Trump because he’s an @sshole in his tweets. Sure, it’s a minor factor, but the overwhelming larger issue is his possible collusion with Russia.
I think this article would have better served us by saying “Among other criminal behavior, Rossello made homophobic remarks that have contributed to his resignation”. Simple and not misleading.

He must be completely out of touch with the use of social media and the Internet today. NOTHING sent or stored electronically can be erased from access. I asked Google how to recover accidentally deleted files and they indcated that I could retrieve any file, in any version for as long back as there is sufficient storage memory i.e. FOREVER.
