Tuesday’s midterm elections may not have been quite the blue wave some Democrats were hoping for, but it certainly offered a glimmer of hope for the future of American politics.

In addition to a record number of LGBTQ and female candidates winning races, a few rotten Republicans getting the boot, and several states passing progressive ballot measures, Democrats won back the House by a healthy margin, as well as several important governor races.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
All in all, it was a good/almost great night Dems. And a not-so-good/borderline bad night for Republicans.
Here’s a brief rundown of the biggest Republican losers who lost in the midterms…
Kim Davis
The county clerk from Kentucky who became famous for denying gay people marriage licenses after the SCOTUS ruling on marriage equality in 2015 will never get the chance to deny anyone anything ever again after being voted out of her job.

Scott Walker
The two-term Republican governor of Wisconsin, who has a long history of opposing equal rights for LGBTQ people, lost his reelection bid by a slim 1.2% margin. Unfortunately for Walker, because of a voter suppression law he signed after the 2016 election, he can’t request a recount. Karma’s a bitch.

Ann Coulter
The New York Times bestselling hate monger had a little meltdown on Twitter over the number of Democrats who won in the deep-red state of Kansas. Not only did Dems pick up one U.S. House seat, they also nabbed two State House seats and, most importantly, the governorship, prompting Coulter to swear off the state forever.

Dana Rohrabacher
The former Reagan speechwriter from California, who believes it should be legal to deny housing to LGBTQ people, lost his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, which he had held since 1989, to Democrat Harley Rouda.

Jeff Sessions
Less than 24 hours after the polls closed, Attorney General Jeff Sessions tendered his resignation following months of criticism and bullying from Donald Trump, making him the first White House casualty of the midterm elections. And just like that, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III was gone with the wind.

Donald Trump
Of course, the biggest loser of the evening was Donald Trump. Despite his claims the night was a “tremendous success” for Republicans, his party lost House by a lot. They also lost several important governor races. Not only that, but the record number of LGBTQ, female, and minority candidates who won across the country suggests the racially-charged and divisive rhetoric he often uses to drum up support doesn’t seem to be working anymore.

Considering the relatively small losses in the house, with the picking up of some senate seats it’s hard to make out the election was a sister for the Republicans.
The system is working. People generally like a power check by having no one party control both houses too long.
Last time that happened in Australia the local version of the Republicans got so extreme they were tossed out at the next election in a land slide

Relatively little? Hmmm, someone has not been paying attention – 30+ and counting. Also looks like you counted your eggs in the Senate before they hatched. You got burned.

Donald Trump didn’t lose anything. Still trying to squeeze him into everything even when he had nothing to do with it. Glad Kim Davis lost though. I didn’t even know she was running again. The House is split. It’s not like Republicans or Democrats are totally dominating.

Lol, what are you smoking? DT has made it all about him. And you republicans let him. Pathetic.

Donald Trump spent months traveling around the country drumming up support for his candidates. To say he hadn’t made this election all about himself and that he lost nothing is just delusional. When Donald Trump is involved it’s always all about him. Even his tremendous victory complete lie speech after the election was all about him. Also a split Congress means no longer has a rubberstamp for everything he wants to do. Oh yes he lost a lot on Tuesday night. It’s a shame about the Senate but Democrats picked up far more House seats than was predicted.
