This Spirit Day we’re wearing purple to stand with LGBTQ youth and stand up against bullying. We’re in this together. And we brought some friends along — the cast of NBC’s Will & Grace.
While many of us are lucky to have found love and acceptance within ourselves, our families and our communities, young LGBTQ people still face serious hurdles.
Here are a few stats from GLSEN’s 2015 National School Climate Survey that paint a picture of what it’s like to be young and queer:
- 85.2% of LGBTQ students report being verbally harrassed
- 63.5% of LGBTQ students report hearing homophobic remarks from teachers and/or school staff because of their gender expression
- 57.6% of LGBTQ students feel unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation
- 48.6% of LGBTQ students have experienced cyberbullying
Wear purple on October 18 and use #SpiritDay on social media and show your support and love for LGBTQ youth everywhere. Find out more here and consider buying one of our limited edition Queerty Will & Grace Spirit Day T-shirts, all proceeds support GLAAD.
How about we take this to the next level?
