Great news for those of you freaking out about losing your hair!
A new study by the University of Pennsylvania has found that guys–especially younger guys–not only find bald guys more attractive, they also find them more dominant and more confident than guys with hair.
The study, titled Shorn Scalps And Male Dominance, was led by Albert E. Mannes. Students were asked to rate photos of different men with different hairlines according to attractiveness, confidence and dominance. Researchers even got sneaky with it. Some of photos showed the same man but with his hair digitally removed.
And the bald men won out in all three categories.

Ranked by attractiveness, bald men were found to be the most sexy, followed by men with thick hair, and then men with thinning hair.
Of all the men, guys with shaved heads seemed to be the most appealing.
“Choosing to dispense with one’s hair is arguably a form of nonverbal behavior, a form of expression which communicates information about the self otherwise difficult to observe,” researchers found.
Interestingly, on average, guys with shaved heads were also viewed as nearly an inch taller than guys with hair, four years older, and 13% stronger. They were also believed to do better in business and economically overall.
So what’s the takeaway here?
Well, researchers say, you might consider ditching the Propecia, Rogaine, and the hair plugs and just go with nature.
“Instead of spending billions each year trying to reverse or cure their hair loss,” researcher suggest, “the counter-intuitive prescription of this research to men experiencing male pattern baldness is to shave their heads.”

Call me a stickler but this doesn’t seem like to most rigorous of “studies.” Also the writing style in the resulting paper was weirdly colloquial compared to the scientific writing that I’m used to, and the confidence intervals were never explained and seem arbitrary.

I’m a shaved head and find other shaved heads and close cuts ‘effin sexy. But desire is so subjective, although it’s not surprising that traditional markers of “masculinity” are a turn on for gay dudes.
