We never understand how book lovers can object to certain books, as if there's some sort of caste system, or something. But, of course, things get all topsy-turvy when the topic turns to sex - especially gay sex:

In the wake of a controversial decision to remove books with sexual content from the shelves of the Nampa [Idaho] library – a member of the board has stepped down.

Nampa Mayor Tom Dale says attorney Bruce Skaug submitted his resignation earlier this week- effective July First.

Skaug was one of three board members who voted to remove The Joy of Sex and The Joy of Gay Ssex [sic]* from the shelves, and make them available in the library office instead.

Because heaven forbid a child learn how people have sex?! That would be a disaster.

*That typo is brilliant! Love a good lisp!

Disgraced politico Larry Craig's already starting his second career: self-serving author!

The Republican, who got nabbed last year trolling for sex in an airport bathroom, announced last night that he's penning a book on energy, for some reason.

Before you get to bored, however, Craig also noted that some of this year's scandals will grace the pages: "There will be a bit of what's happened in the last year, and the way it evolved. I think that's important for Idaho and those outside Idaho who are interested to know."

Oh, please, Craig! Your sexual misadventures are the only thing that makes you even remotely interesting!

» No Entry.

Awww! Doesn't 70-year old Idaho native Walt Bayes look like a sweet old man? Well, he's not. In fact, the Republican, who's running for his state's House of Representatives, wants to install gay and straight bathrooms in high schools because "it is absolutely wrong to force any student to share the same bathrooms and showers with homosexual teachers or students." At least he's making space for the gays, right? [Towleroad]

Toilet trolling Senator Larry Craig needs an extra pair of hands:

Idaho Senator Larry Craig is currently seeking intern applications for the summer term, which runs from May to August. The application deadline is March 15, however if more time is needed for the application process, please contact Senator Craig's office for an extension. Craig offers paid internships within the Washington, D.C., office. Preference is given to Idaho applicants attending Idaho schools who are in their junior or senior years of college (including graduating seniors).

'"Interns have the chance to be an essential part of a working congressional office," said Craig. "They participate in the legislative process as well as ensure that constituent services run smoothly. For those interested in politics, it is an incredible opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at how our government functions while serving the people of Idaho."

Do you think you've got the balls, reader?

Larry Craig just got the pummeling he's always wanted!

The Senate's Ethic Committee told the Idaho Senator this afternoon that he acted "unethically" and "brought discredit to the Senate," according to the AP. The committee, which is led by Democrat Barbara Boxer, - also wrote that Craig knew exactly what he was doing in that bathroom and attempted to misuse his position to sway the arresting officer:

The six members of the committee — three Democrats and three Republicans — told Craig they believed he "committed the offense to which you pled guilty" and that "you entered your plea knowingly, voluntarily and intelligently."

The panel also admonished Craig for showing the arresting officer a business card that identified him as a U.S. senator. Craig has been reported to have told the officer at the time, "What do you think about that?"

The committee wrote, "You knew or should have known that a reasonable person in the position of the arresting officer could view your action and statement as an improper attempt by you to use your position and status … to receive special and favorable treatment."

Despite their conclusion, Boxer and her colleagues did not recommend any further action against the politico. They must have taken pity on the man, who will not be running for reelection and whose legacy will forever be tarnished by his bathroom antics.

What's more, now everyone knows his trollish ways and he'll never again be able to cruise with shameful confidence. Poor thing.

Shocker!

Can you believe it?! Idaho - home to toilet trolling Senator Larry Craig - may soon debate a gay inclusive non-discrimination bill. State representative Nicole LeFavour celebrated the legislative move with a very special blog post.

On this day when we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Senate State Affairs Committee voted to print the first piece of legislation to mention sexual orientation, and to propose ending centuries of discrimination against gays and lesbians in employment, housing, education and public accommodation.

Leslie Goddard, director of the Human Rights Commission beautifully presented the bill after an introduction by Senator Tim Corder, a major sponsor of the legislation.

Nothing, except giving thanks to those who vote well, is more important than dedicating ourselves to having positive, gentle interactions with legislators who are still on the road to understanding these issues and voting as we would wish.

The potential bill will rewrite 1968's Human Rights Act and would prohibit businesses with five or more employees from discriminating based on sexual orientation. Religious organizations, however, would not have to abide by the law.

We simply can't wait to hear how Craig votes - not that we're expecting much…

Has High Hopes, Expectations For America

popkey.jpg
It's been two months since we heard about Larry Craig's disorderly conduct arrest in Minnesota. In honor of this blessed anniversary, CBS News sat down with Idaho Newstateman's Dan Popkey, the dedicated journo who spent nearly a year delving into Craig's reported faggotry. As the dust settles around Craig, Popkey's got one hope: that America's learned its lesson.

This story is a very big deal, but not only on a political level. I think it has enormous cultural consequences. And I hope that there will be some positive change because of it. I think that some people who may have had closed minds about whether a gay person can serve well in a high office … they might have their minds opened as a result of this.

Popkey also worries that he's not his paper's best public representative. Don't worry, Popkey, we've seen you on television and you're doing a great job. Although, you could use a bit more graphic language. But that's just our fucking style.

But Is It Legal?

slycraig.jpg
Larry Craig's pulling a Mark Foley. No, he's not preying on Congressional pages. The disgraced, toilet trolling Idahoan senator has tapped into his campaign coffers to fight an ethics investigation:

…Craig has spent nearly $23,000 in campaign funds to pay a Washington lawyer who represents him before the Senate ethics committee, a new campaign finance report shows.

The report does not show any campaign money used for legal expenses related to Craig's criminal case, but a spokesman said that is merely a question of timing. Ethics lawyer Stanley Brand "bills more quickly" than Billy Martin, Craig's lawyer in the criminal case, said Dan Whiting, a spokesman for Craig.

Though it may seem unfair, politicians can use campaign funds for lawyerly fees, but only if it pertains to their official business. Some wonder if Craig's bending the rules. Meredith McGehee of the Campaign Legal Center wonders,

It's kind of interesting that he would use his campaign funds but at the same argue he shouldn't be punished (by the Senate) because this has nothing to do with his officials acts.

"Interesting"? It sounds criminal. And sneaky, just like Craig.

To Be Celebrated In Idaho

craighalloffame.jpg
Larry Craig's got big plans this Saturday. The disgraced senator will be inducted into the much coveted Idaho Hall of Fame - and not everyone's happy about it.

The nonprofit Idaho Hall of Fame Association picked Craig in March, months before he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after a Minneapolis airport police officer accused him of soliciting sex in the men's restroom, the organization's board chairman said.

"Larry Craig has made a great contribution to Idaho over the period of 20-some years. At the time it was considered, this other matter had not come up," Harry Magnuson told The Spokesman-Review newspaper Saturday.

But some Republicans said the honor is inappropriate now. Kootenai County Republican precinct committeeman Phil Thompson said Idaho Hall of Fame officials should consider at least postponing the induction.

"Maybe in 10 or 15 years we can think of this hall of fame stuff. Now is not the time," he said. "It's a sad day to be a Republican."

Not if you're Larry Craig. That man's fucking unstoppable!

Idahoan Ally Pledges Support

billsali1-1.jpg
Not all the Republicans are gunning for Larry Craig's head. Idahoan Congressman Bill Sali plans to pray for the scandalized senator:

Our prayers continue to be with Senator Craig and his family as they make decisions that will affect their future and Idaho's. The people of Idaho will benefit most if Idaho's delegation remains united in working to secure the greatest results possible for our state. I am committed to do everything I can to help make Senator Craig’s remaining months in office as successful as possible.

Does that include satisfying Craig's taste for gay sex? He must have some wicked blue balls since that July arrest.

Wants To See Senator He Fights Inevitable

arlenspector1.jpg
While Republican big-wigs - and others - celebrate Larry Craig's resignation, Senator Arlen Specter's hoping Craig will fight it out:

I'd like to see Larry Craig go back to court, seek to withdraw his guilty plea and fight the case. On the evidence Senator Craig wouldn't be convicted of anything. And he's got his life on the line and 27 years in the House and Senate, and I'd like to see him fight the case because I think he could be vindicated.

He said he intends to resign. When you have a statement of intent to resign that intent could change. And if he could change the underlying sense of the case, feel of the case.

Listen you can go to court and withdraw a guilty plea, of course disorderly conduct is not moral turpitude. [In a trial] he wouldn't be convicted of anything. And if he went to court, was acquitted, all of this hullabaloo would have no basis.

Well, actually, the fact that he pled guilty in the first place sort of does give it basis. And, also, what would he the point? There's no way in hell the good people of Idaho would reelect him. They're not total potato heads.

Happy Endings: Special Edition

craigoout.jpg
Just six days after the world heard of his bathroom cruising antics, Idaho Senator Larry Craig has resigned.

In his statement, Craig preferred not to highlight his Republican colleague's calls for his head. Instead, the 62-year old anti-gay politico placed blame on his legal battle to clear his lewd name:

…To pursue my legal options as I continue to serve Idaho would be an unwanted and unfair distraction from my job and for my Senate colleagues.

It is with sadness and deep regret that I announce that it is my intent to resign from the Senate, effective September 30. In doing so, I hope to allow for a smooth and orderly transition for my loyal staff, and for the person appointed to take my place…

Craig also apologizes to his constituents and his colleagues. He did not, however, explicitly thank his wife, Suzanne. The poor woman ended up getting steamrolled by his struggle to stay afloat:

…Suzanne and I have been humbled by the outpouring of support we have received from our friends, our family, staff and fellow Idahoans - we are profoundly and forever grateful.

We sure hope Suzy C's busting his balls at home, cause Craig's deserve some busting. Oh, wait, that's what got him into this mess in the first place…

Full statement after the jump…
