If I was going to rebrand the Catholic Church, as much as I despise what it stands for, I would say get a black person — well, first I would say get a woman or a gay — but then I’d say get a black person or a Hispanic person…
I’m horrified by this Pope. I’m horrified by his stance on gays. And I just love — I was reading today that the Pope arrived in a Christian Dior cape with red Dorothy shoes and blah blah, and he tells us that it’s wrong to be gay. And, I don’t know, I’m really intrigued by it; there’s more to this than meets the eye. It’s not just because he’s old and sick [that he’s resigning]. I hope there’s some more skeletons in his closet, because this violent bigotry that he’s been exposing … and he’s the head of a church that a very large portion of the world belongs to, and they’re still condoning him by going to church every week. I think it’s time they sorted it out and got a new one.”
— Alan Cumming on not buying Pope Benedict’s reason for stepping down from the papal throne and offering some much-neded PR advice to the Catholic Church, via New York Magazine.

Ratz will be cloistered away in the Vatican and unable to have contact with the outside world. wow…it must have been bad. Perhaps there are so many skeletons in his closet that it will look like a scene out of Jason and the Argonauts.

Amen, to that!
What’s amazing is that more people don’t have the balls to say the same.
You can’t be a member of a crowd that so adamantly hates the gays, & still pretend that you’ve got our back.

…as much as I can’t agree more with Mr Cummings remarks on the Pope etc, I feel so heartless towards the human race because it still can’t except the guilt for
homosexuality.
This is truly outrageously sad that not only do we still have to cope with
nasty hostilities towards openly gay people we still have all the ones who remain in
the closet which causes the most devastation in our society….
You do not have to be a lisping-camp-queen to be homosexual…FACT! Oh, but of-course
someone somewhere would say—‘It Helps’ NO that’s the point it don’t!!!!!
Catholicism appears to continue being so hypocritical, and the Islam and the…
Christian and the, Oh bugger we all have so ****ing far to go. (H.R.)

Love Cummings comment on a gay pope, and we need more creative suggestions like this. The pope is the biggest pulpit in the world, let’s make it a bully pulpit!

I’ll be honest – I’ve thought he was sexy since I saw him in Goldeneye in fourth grade.

Given the odds, we’re bound to get a gay pope whomever they elect.

Too funny! The priests, bishops, archbishops, cardinals, &c. are just too fastidious and prissy not to be just a little bit light in the loafers. Fellini satirized their sartorial obsessions in films like “8 1/2.” This pope is up to his ears in the obstruction of justice during the height of the American pedophilia scandals; as head of the modern equivalent to the Inquisition, he had personal knowledge of criminality in not reporting molestations to child protective agencies, just as he knowingly sent recidivist perps to rehab only to provide them with fresh flesh at new parish postings. And, finally, I never believed his claim that he only joined the Hitler Youth because he had no alternatives. Once a Nazi, always a Nazi. The congregants should be ashamed of themselves: each time they put money in the plate on Sunday they are financing pay-offs and hush money to victims. You’d think they’d see the hypocrisy of their ways.

I recently watched “Mea Maxima Culpa” on HBO dealing with the molestation scandal. When Ratzinger headed the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith he issued an order in 2001 to have all molestation cases send directly to him. After the scandal broke in the U.S. as pope, he was exonerated by a Vatican investigation and claimed he had no knowledge. My gut feeling is his resignation has a lot more to do with that than ill health. The man should never have been pope and should have been prosecuted and thrown in jail, along with all the hierarchy who were complicit by their inaction and silence, many of whom are gay themselves.
