BALLOT SLIPPERS

Apparently Same-Day Voter Registration Is Part Of The Gay Agenda

The list of heinous and immoral things being done by sodomites in Maine is nearly endless, according to the state’s Republican party. Their latest transgression? Making it easier for Pine Tree State voters to cast their ballots. For shame!

TalkingPointsMemo has an interesting story about an ad the local GOP took out in several Maine papers. In it, the group enumerates Equality Maine’s crimes against humanity:

“FACT! IN THE 2010 ELECTIONS, EQUALITY MAINE (ADVOCACY GROUP FOR GAY/LESBIAN MARRIAGE) DONATED $141,000 FOR THE ELECTION OF DEMOCRAT CANDIDATES TO THE MAINE LEGISLATURE.

FACT! IN THIS ELECTION EQUALITY MAINE HAS DONATED $5000 AND RECEIVED OVER $46,000 TO COLLECT SIGNATURES IN SUPPORT OF REFERENDUM QUESTION #1.

WHY… IS THIS SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP SO INTERESTED IN REPEALING MAINE ELECTION LAWS?”

Of course, what’s missing is the fact that Referendum Question #1 simply asks, “Do you want to reject the section of Chapter 399 of the Public Laws of 2011 that requires new voters to register to vote at least two business days prior to an election?”

That would open the door for same-day voter registration—which seems like a pretty good thing no matter which party you’re a member of.  But phrasing it clearly would make Equality Maine sound too benign. So instead we get this Mrs. Lovejoy-style “Won’t somebody please think of the children?!?” misdirection.

Ugh, next thing you know the gays will want to do away with poll taxes and let women get the vote!
