Since I’m from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, I hould pipe up here. The article is accurate about PFLAG having a potent influence on gay acceptance here. There is at least one all Gay Church and support in at least 20 congregations. The gay presense here is not as evident in the same way as it is in most large urban areas(i.e. there have never been many bars or bathhouses etc.)There have always been couples all over, and as long as it has that respectable face it’s ok . This has always been a family concious area and parents are really proactive. It’s easier to get familial approval than to have sex! So, I had to come out and live elsewhere myself, since it’s a little tame for me, but it was really astonishing for me when I went to PRIDE this summer and there were nearly as many families as gay people: or it was kind of a family event. That’s Ok I guess.

Canada is a more European and liberal all over than the U.S. If the Union members are anything like the families here, even the conservatives wouldn’t interfer with peoples family members.

It never occured to me but this might be an excellent way into a larger segments hearts(????)

The unions are the armored column and the heavy infantry of social change. When they get involved the situation will change for the better.

In 2008 many working people and GLBT voters will give the Democrats another chance but those voters are already far to the left of the gayhaters who run the party. They’ll hold their nose and vote for the Democrats in spite of NAFTA, DOMA, DADT, and the betrayals of ENDA and the hate crimes bill. It’s because there’s no viable alternative.

We can build one after the elections when the cycle of backstabbing begins all over again but for now vote for any communist, socialist or leftwing candidate or do what most disgusted people do, abstain. Why should we care which set of gangsters gets in and collects bribes.
