In a new interview with The Evening Standard, Courtney Love shared her unvarnished thoughts about some of the biggest female pop stars of our time and, let’s just say, shots were fired. And Gay Twitter X™ has responded accordingly.
First, here’s a quick recap of what the 59-year-old rocker said…
On Taylor Swift:
Taylor is not important. She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.
On Madonna:
I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me. I loved Desperately Seeking Susan, but for the city of New York as much as her.
On Lana Del Rey:
I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off. Up until “Take Me Home Country Roads” I thought she was great. When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.
On Beyoncé:
I like the idea of Beyoncé doing a country record because it’s about Black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed, not that I like it much. As a concept, I love it. I just don’t like her music.
Somewhat ironically, Love, who’s been living in London since 2019, made the digs while promoting her new eight-part radio series, Courtney Love’s Women, now out on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds.
“I am completely disagreeable and I’m never going to apologize for that,” she added during the interview. “I always wanted to be known as a bitch. Being liked was never my thing.”

Now, onto the responses…
While Swifties and members of the BeyHive have come out swinging, it’s Madonna’s rabid fanbase who seem to be the most triggered by Love’s latest attacks on their queen.
As you may recall, the two have a decades-long rivalry that dates back to the 1995 MTV VMAs when the Hole singer crashed the Material Girl’s interview with Kurt Loder.
The moment resulted in Madonna’s now-iconic quip: “Courtney Love is in dire need of attention right now.” 💅
Nearly 30 years later, Courtney Love is still, it seems, in dire need of attention. And she’s certainly getting it.
Here’s how people have been reacting to her comments…
But, per usual, for every one person who is upset over Love’s words, there seems to be another one who agrees with her.
Here’s what her defenders are saying…
What do you think of Love’s remarks? And will you be tuning into Courtney Love’s Women? Sound off in the comments below…

I’m surprised that she could ever like that pudge of nepotism, Lana Drone Rey. Her voice is like Belsomra. Though she’s right about everything else.

“Being liked was never my thing.” Give yourself a gold star Courtney. You’ve definitely achieved that goal.
The most surprising thing about this article is that Courtney is still alive. I haven’t thought about her since Kurt Cobain died 30 years ago.

“died” with a little nudge from a certain someone?

Very lame.

I love Courtney Love, I don’t always agree with here but I absolutely appreciate her. And Live Through This is still one of the greatest albums ever made.

I agree. Each of the women she criticized are huge stars. They should absorb criticism and move on. I don’t get the sense that Courtney was saying anything about them personally.

Love is certainly entitled to her opinion. It’s not like she’s some bishy nobody hurling insults from the internet. She’s been on top of the charts and she’s been down and out and she knows a thing or two about it all. I don’t agree with everything she says but I find her very discerning and enjoy hearing from her.

Another mess (not you monty).

I saw this. Madison shouldn’t behind the wheel of any vehicle!

Or on top of them…………….groan.

The article makes clear that Courtney Love is throwing out these names to garner attention. Her 15 minutes were up decades ago.

Well, that worked, she got herself some attention. Courtney knows from whence she speaks because believe you me, nobody knows more about being unimportant than Courtney. Hole’s first album was basically Kurt Cobain’s last, which is why it was so good. Any album she did without Kurt’s input never reached the same heights.

Speaking of people that don’t know anything, everything you just said about Hole was factually incorrect.
Hole’s first album, Pretty on the Inside, came out before the two even met.
The second album t, Live Through This, is the one nimrods like you try to attribute to Cobain. The problem is that it was written, demoed and played live …. wait for it … wait for it…. before the two met. It did come out after he had passed away. He did do some uncredited backup vocals on it though.
The third album, Celebrity Skin, was several years after he passed and was their commercial peak. Dude from the Smashing Pumpkins co-wrote a few songs on that one.
So… you managed to literally get everything in your comment wrong..
There wee three other people in Hole, it’s really sad that you are so desperate to criticize Love that you not only made up the history of the band but have also completely stripped them of their accomplishments at artists.

@Eternal.Cowboy – Feel better darling? I stand corrected, thank you for the clarification and mini history lesson. Very edifying and we’re all the better for it. Sadly, your information only makes Love seem even sadder – all that talent wasted. At this point reading about her is like driving by a car accident – you can’t help but look. What I wasn’t incorrect about was that she was feeling neglected, needed some attention, then got it when, as you wrote of me, she attacked other artists and “completely stripped them of their accomplishments as artists.” Say what you will but she’s a very clever hot mess. If those other artists are that bad then put down the works, pick up a guitar and start writing Courtney.

“Sadly, your information only makes Love seem even sadder – all that talent wasted.”
Yeah, she only had successful music and acting careers, and is apparently still sought out for her thoughts. As opposed your you esteemed a career in making things up in the Qweerty comment section.
“What I wasn’t incorrect about was that she was feeling neglected, needed some attention, then got it when, as you wrote of me, she attacked other artists and “completely stripped them of their accomplishments as artists.”
Totally agree, she was looking for attention and took the bait… Who is really sad one in that situation?
On the contrary, she didn’t strip them of their accomplishments. She said she didn’t like their music, there is a vast difference between not liking someone’s music and saying they didn’t make their music. You did the latter.
And really… where do these attacks come from. People have consistently taken a band that consists of primarily women and attributes all of their work and success to a man …. I guess misogyny never goes out of fashion.

Did the interview take place after this weekends Coachella? Cause I know the indie community was fed up especially after the dismal turnout for Britpop icons Blur. It’s like they were trying to even make the lineup a little more slightly going back to the indie basics. But the problem is by now their demographic is anything but what it was in 2004. The pop princess top 40, I Heart Radio type who are either only there because of the influencers they follow are there or are there to be scene. As I like to call it #MetGalaChella. It might be her way of just standing up for her fellow alternarock brethren but unfortunately she’s coming off very Courtney Love and not exactly the martyr her late friend Sinead O’ Connor was.

If she isn’t dead, shouldn’t she be dead by now? She’s only a distant bad memory in music history.
abfab
Sweet.

Taylor and her boyfriend are annoying. Her music, monotonus. And yes, she’s too pretty which is never a good thing. Go Courtney!
JOJO
My guess is she’s talking about the type of girls Slash and Steven Tyler go after when Kurt mentioned how depressed he felt living in LA, lol!
