If only it were real. According to Andrea James, a friend of Queerty, this is an awesome short film from director Brumby Boylston that was shown before her own documentary Alec Mapa: Baby Daddy at New York’s queer film festival this past summer.

How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

Ha, funny. But not for my three-month-old niece (I’m pretty sure her mom/my sister wouldn’t be amused).

And what exactly made Cruising Controversial? The “fact” that the up and coming gay mafia used Cruising as a test site for their ability to destroy something didn’t make the movie Cruising controversial.
Cruising is a great movie and it is unlikely that any major movie studio will ever again do anything like Cruising again.
What is / was real and an actual fact though was that there were Dolls made for the Django production. There was / is a doll of Leonardo DiCaprio as a slave owner.

Cruising.. Ha. I lived it. Riverside Park, UWS, 1980. Like no other time in my life. 🙂

@MarionPaige: I disagree. I watched Cruising and it is disgusting and extremely homophobic. The ending is homophobic in epic proportions. It is a horrible movie.

@MarionPaige: Any time I see you post I get nauseated.

I want to play with Maggie Smith’s ” The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie “.

I don’t find “Cruising” homophobic. It’s pretty accurate as to what was going in the S&M scene at the time. I applaud Al Pacino for taking on the character as he was an already established movie star, unafraid of any repercustions for doing the role. I feel that this film is an important entry in queer cinema.

@Billy Budd, what was homophobic about it? I could never understand this claim. The protagonist was not homophobic. Art can portray gay people of whom you don’t approve, or even evil gay people, without being homophobic. Not every gay character has to represent you. Is it that you think it homophobic to portray S&M, something that exists and appeals to many gay men? Would you consider it homophobic to make a film about Jeffrey Dahmer?
I think what is homophobic is the idea that we should hide our “dirty laundry” in favor of acceptance, so all gay characters should be pre-approvable by the gay committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, to use the Saudi/Iranian terminology.

I saw “Cruising” when it came out first and was fascinated by it. There was no scene like the one it portrayed in Dublin back then! (There is probably no longer anything like it in New York.) I saw it again recently in the local film club. I saw nothing homophobic about it. (The ending took me by surprise – I did not remember it.)

To my eye this looks like it was produced by the christian far right to further their claim that the vast majority of child molesters are gay – which of course they’re not. I can see the headlines now: Homosexual mafia / lobby tries new tactic to recruit children. I’d have no problem with this if the players had been gay adults.

@scotshot: No different then anything saturday night live would put out. I thought it was cute.
