Tongues have been waging ever since Republican politician Mike Yenni from Louisiana was outed for allegedly sexting with a 17-year-old Catholic school boy, gifting the teen designer underwear and kissing him in a mall bathroom before discarding him like, well, just another summer fling.

Since the story went viral on Friday, Yenni has gone into hiding. He hasn’t been into the office, nor has he answered any phone calls or emails. And his social media pages, both professional and personal, have not been updated either.

I don’t get it. I just don’t get it. Ok, he got a piece of young booty. Now, lets move on to his anti-gay legislation that he proposed. Or does anything along that line exist? And one last question: did the kid scream rape? HIV infection? Bareback? In other words, so what. @Mo Bro: well when he pushes legislation that hurts others, I have a problem with it. It is called hypocrisy. He is basically telling others they can’t be true to themselves, yet he has no problem sexting someone of the same sex.
If he was a private citizen, I would have no issue with it. The only people I would feel sorry for was his wife, children (if they had any) and both sides of the family who would be negatively impacted.
A lying scoundrel pushing antigay legislation is the problem.

I interned for a couple of Senators back when I was in college. I was told by both over the course of the internships (2 years)…”You do not know what I believe, what I believe doesn’t matter. I was hired by the voters to represent their ideas, beliefs and philosophies. If I want to keep my job I will continue to work towards their ideals.”
So now 30 years later I still whenever I see a story of a politico doing something that leaves everyone agast, I think back to being told that.

This is not a major issue. This young man was above the age of consent and he was not a prostitute. The issues here is a married man chasing after men half his age or not even half his age. This kid was not the first one, there was that little scandal about his using a government issue blackberry to text several young men and one young lady.
My understanding is that he has not been in the forefront of anti-gay legislation or even particularly vocal in his opposition to gay people exercising their civil rights. What he is, is a 40 year old man who has the hots for 17 and 18 year old guys. He is also one who unfortunately was caught doing it.

@jdboston617: The Republican Party in Louisiana has been rabidly anti-gay. Does he agree with its stances or not? Does he disagree? Has this ephebophile spoken out against it? You can do that as a conscientious Republican, you know. Also, this 17-year-old isn’t the first person he was sexting/texting. In general how has he addressed questions of sexual freedom and equality? Why do so many Republicans/conservatives support anti-gay policies in public but try to benefit from and enjoy all the achievements of LGBTQ equality, which was achieved through considerable struggle, in private?

@Kangol: Yes – it’s extremely unlikely that ANY elected Republican in Louisiana would have anything BUT an rabidly anti-gay voting record, and probably statements to that effect. It would be good to have some proof, but that’s probably not hard to find.
