Jordan Schaeffer was the victim of a brutal gay bashing at a South Beach Burger King, and now he’s speaking out about his attack to CBS Miami.
After sharing a kiss with boyfriend Eric Danko, 25-year-old Schaeffer was brutally beaten by an assailant while an accomplice held his boyfriend at bay, and the attack was caught on surveillance footage:
“It was just a simple kiss with my boyfriend. And then right after that kiss, I started walking over and that’s when I was approached by this gentleman. He then started to use derogatory terms such as ‘f**king faggots. Why don’t you show if you’re tough or not you little faggot.’ It all happened so fast once I got slammed to the ground. It’s just kind of a blur.”
In a phone interview, Schaeffer seems shaken by the attack:
“Even just talking about it makes me uncomfortable. We’re in 2016 and especially in a city like Miami Beach, where I thought being homosexual would be pretty accepted, it’s just not right that anyone should suffer.”
Burger King hasn’t commented on the attack, and the attacker and his accomplice are still at large.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Nobody should be attacked or threatened with violence for being themselves. We wish Jordan Schaeffer the best in recovering from his physical and mental injuries. Watch the story via CBS Miami below.

In South Beach? WTF?!
Dave Basora
South beach, especially at night, isn’t as gay friendly as it used to be
Stephen Meeks
That’s depressing…so sad.
Tommy Strangie
Across the street from both one of the most popular gay bars on South Beach and also the Miami Beach Police Department is directly across the street
Stephen Meeks
And yet this still happened.
Ricco Galmore
Why won’t people just let others live?! All of the chaos going on in the world and you’re mad about two men kissing? So many stories in the last couple of days have been so awful. Leave people alone!
Nick Lamphier
It sad that there still this kind of hate in country
Luis H. Lopez
Solution self defense carry a gun cause police don’t protect gay people !
Justin Weeks
I agree
Alex Rothwell
Did they catch the ones that attacked them ?
Tommy Strangie
No
Gary Hecklinger
Unreal..
Justin Weeks
Not surprising why do they never fight back tho!? I would beat the hell out of someone if they dear to touch me out someone I love
Rodney Church
Funny how I as a GAY MAN am not offended to see a Hetero-couple OR two-women demonstrating their affection so, why does my kissing my man bother others? why so insecure about YOUR sexuality dude, live and let live………this is America last time I checked!
Mark Coassolo
We have to start packing.
Peter Gaffney
Another reason Burger King is bad for us.
James Lee Hawn
It’s a shame, people should be to kiss their significant other without fear of being harmed.
Daniel Moroni
That’s fucking bullshit. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, honey.
Joel Peters
One more example how America is turning into a “Brownshirt” country. Be prepared folks because it won’t only be gay people attacked.
If we do not stand up for LGBT, women, minorities any one that is on the bigot’s list, they will be coming after you!
JaredNorthcutt30
It’s 2016. And as a transwoman, I should be allowed to get my titties out in public. What is wrong with America? In the meantime, I’m practicing getting my titties out at the trans commune.
Bob LaBlah
@JaredNorthcutt30: Obviously you don’t live in NYC. If you did your would simply do like the strait women do/did; cover them in body paint and strut your stuff for tips in Times Square.
And by the way, your kind are exactly why NYC raised hell to get it stopped. They knew it wouldn’t be long before ya’ll joined the parade.
JaredNorthcutt30
No, I don’t. I should move back. In the meantime, I’m getting my titties out in the other states.
JaredNorthcutt30
As we should. Cisgender men have been doin’ it for years. Since the 1930s.
Bob LaBlah
Jordan, it was not your fault. The fights at the McDonalds at the West 4th street station in NYC were enough for me to learn to cook a batch of chicken wings to have to eat instead of going thru the gauntlet of the homeless and simply lost souls who cluttered the fast food joints of the area at night. It got utterly disgusting to walk in them and see near gladiator matches involving gay men and “things” that to this day I could not be sure of its sex. I kid you not.
The ones I really felt pity for were the kids who worked behind the counter and had no protection from those degenerates. I am sympathetic to the homeless as long as they are trying to help themselves to a better career and life (school and vocational training). The guy who attacked you looked more of a lowly drag queen to me than a man, if you get my drift. It was obvious he had martial arts training by the takedown, leg and arm lock he used. He would have fit in perfect at that W. 4th street Mickey D’s.
Anyone remember when these two bitches got their asses beat at the W. 4th street location?

@Joel Peters: Is Brownshirt a r@cist term ?? Or are you referring to Ernst roehm’s group ?
Mikah92
This makes me so fucking angry!If I was there I would’ve jumped in and probably ended up in handcuffs.I bet the basher is nothing more than a deranged closet case who’s struggling with his feelings for men.Be sure to protect yourselves guys,homophobia is alive and well.
SFHandyman
Homophobia and sex shaming all has it’s roots in religion. We need to be sure and keep that crap out of schools and out of Government. They (Christian and Islam mostly) start telling kids when they are very young that their God doesn’t like people who are not straight so they learn as children it is OK, and even encouraged, to beat us up, call us names, and push us down.
God ruins everything. Keep it out of schools and Government.
joeyty
@SFHandyman: Well….to an extent, yes. But in the atheist (Communist) countries they punished you for homosexuality too, so….There’s a lot of shades-of-gray and stuff with homophobia..
Bob LaBlah
@SFHandyman: You should have added that very ugly incident in Israel when that psycho pulled out a knife and killed two people ten years after he had done the SAME thing before at the same gay pride event. Jews aren’t crazy about gays because that prevents jewish children from being born in their eyes.
Brian
Miami Beach is NOT gay-friendly. There might be a few bars and clubs which advertise themselves as gay-friendly but beyond their confines you’ll find a lot of hostility.
Learn to discern between fake and real. Fake gay acceptance is common. Real gay acceptance is rare.
joeyty
@Bob LaBlah: That’s only Hasidic (or Haredi) Jews that are against homosexuality, though. And they’re a bunch of inbred loons. Otherwise Jews (very varied) are one of the most gay-friendly in groups, from Reformed to….even some Orthodox.
joeyty
@Brian: It WAS totally gay-cool right after gays and NYC Jews had revived the whole deco district and made it ino the hippest place in the world. But then the success brought in, amongst other horrors, all these homophobic thug types to mess up the place.
Bob LaBlah
@joeyty: Speaking of NYC have you been down on Christopher street lately? I was there during the Christmas holidays and could not believe Boots and Saddles has closed. Not only that there are only two adult video shop (poppers, condoms, toys..etc) left. Ok, three, if you count that little dungeon like place you could walk down some one-slip-and-your-neck-is-broken steps in between Bleeker street and 7th Ave (same side that Boots and Saddles was on) but by now it too might be gone. I didn’t go down 8th ave but it would not surprise me if a lot of those video arcades (which were relics of the past anyway) are now gone.
BTW, those neck breaking type of steps also applied to that store down by the Hangar that sells leather pants and shirts at sky-high prices. I could never figure out how/why the hell did the building inspectors allow that one to pass. I wonder if Magnolia’s Bakery is still down there on Bleeker with those high ass rents in that neighborhood?
joeyty
@Bob LaBlah: Yes, Christopher Street, and the whole West Village, is really just a big nothing now. Just a place for mainstream people to live in order to be close to work down on Wall Street. So many people today will never know the endless fascination, mystery, and electricity that Greenwich Village used to have.
GC1985
@Bob LaBlah: What does that have to do with the topic at hand?
@joeyty: No they aren’t.
@Brian: And yet you’re endorsing homophobic and always gushing about how hot homophobic straight men are. Why don’t you just say it? “These guys shouldn’t act so “gay” infront of others”. You’re just a self righteous self hating bigot.
@JaredNorthcutt30: Um… you’re kidding right?
GC1985
Can we try to stay on subject?
Titties, videos and something about long closed clubs. Right.
Old clubs close and new ones open. I see this all the time in LA. What does that have to do with anything here?
This guy was savagely attacked. Oh and homophobic people can go anywhere. Even in West Hollywood looking to start trouble.
joeyty
@GC1985: No…WHAT aren’t ?
Xzamilio
@joeyty: Nice try with that “atheist (Communist) countries” sneaky addition. Atheism and Communism are not the same thing… one is an ideology that replaces worship of a deity with worship of a statement and the other is nothing more than a lack of belief. Not even denying that there are atheists that are homophobic, but more often than not, you won’t find any justification for homophobia that isn’t laced with religious connotations or some argument from nature fallacy.
GC1985
@joeyty: I was talking about Judaism. By the way, Israel itself isn’t that gay friendly. They might have some policies, but I could easily turn around and say certain Catholic countries have same sex marriage legalized and have far more rights.
@joeyty: Keep compounding your ignorance. Atheists are generally more supportive of gay people… I’m not saying universally, but generally. Can you stay away from politics and history? You know nothing about it.
joeyty
@GC1985: No. On both.
GC1985
@joeyty: No… on both… because…
You say so.
Right, you’re such a genius and all right?
*shakes head*
Keep proving how clueless you are to everybody here please. It’s great entertainment seeing you make yourself look so foolish.
joeyty
@Xzamilio: That’s YOUR pet peeve about the atheism thing. That and the mass murder stuff. But I’m not saying any avowed atheist I meet today is going to be necessarily homophobic or psychotic. Probably not at all. Still….I think blaming religion for all homophobia is historically inaccurate.
joeyty
@GC1985: You can go out to gay bars in Israel and march in a silly pride parade.
joeyty
@GC1985: “to everyone here”?? and…..who are THEY ? A bunch of typed in letters.
joeyty
@GC1985: ” but I could easily turn around and say certain Catholic countries have same sex marriage legalized and have far more rights.” No, you can’t. Not on Queerty. That would mean you’re a sneaky straight hateful Republican plant sent here to disrupt the formidable Queerty.
GC1985
@joeyty: You’re a stupid little Trump supporter. What else is there to say? You’re always be a clueless thing.
GC1985
@GC1985: *You will always
Anyways, you haven’t dispute anything I have said. It just goes to show you don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re just responding for the sake of it.
joeyty
@GC1985: I am not. I’m a BIG girl.
Bob LaBlah
@GC1985: “What does that have to do with the topic at hand?”
Dear, grown folks are talking here. Keep your 6th street and San Pedro avenue mentality over there on the left coast where you and your ignorance thrive. Just WHO the hell are you to question me?
JaredNorthcutt30
@GC1985 Nope, dead serious.
JaredNorthcutt30
@GC1985: Nope, dead serious.
JaredNorthcutt30
@GC1985: I’m the admin for Go Topless Asheville and help plan their events.
JaredNorthcutt30
I’m not resting until two lesbians can finger their titties in public in peace. Thank you.
Captain Obvious
@Stephen Meeks: I got called a faggot by a guy in a convertible going down the street in the middle of West Hollywood across the street from a largely gay restaurant. Homophobia happens anywhere at any time. The more repressed they are the more they hate us for not feeling insecure like they do.
Xzamilio
@joeyty: It’s a good damn thing no one — including me — said that ALL homophobia is religion based, past or present. Of course not ALL… what a dumb point. Is it ever ALL? And the “mass murder thing”? You mean Stalin, Pol Pot, and Mao? Yes, they were atheists… motivated by their shared communist ideology to commit those atrocities. Funny how people like you gloss over the “Communism” aspect, considering it was their core motivation.
So no, not ALL homophobia is religious based… but a LOT of it is.
joeyty
@Xzamilio: I agree that a lot of it is.
joeyty
@Xzamilio: I also think (maybe you’ll agree) that a lot of homophobia isn’t directly religious or non-religious but just comes down to the “yuck” factor. Some people find the idea of male-on-male sex and intimacy disgusting, and were more comfortable when it had to be hidden away, thus they’re annoyed when it’s too out in the open.
Realitycheck
Hopefully the video will lead to the assailants, now unpopular opinion, that said I have to wonder about
starting to carry knife with me when I go out or to do away with kissing in public.
There is a difference between being openly gay and making oneself a target in a non gay venue when in reality there are plenty of anti gay morons out there.
And I am a pretty big muscle guy so usually I am not a target, but why be one of the victims??
Realitycheck
@joeyty: Agreed, lots of straight guy feel that way, heck I am gay and I feel that way about lesbians LOL
GC1985
@Bob LaBlah: You have shown many times that you act like a teenager. What ignorance? I used to live on the east coast. I know a lot more about reality than some small town hick like yourself. Your statements and videos have nothing to do with the topic at hand. You just like to hear yourself talk (or type in this case). Notice how nobody paid any attention to your nonsensical rant.
@JaredNorthcutt30: I was surprised that is all. I am fully supportive of trans people. Ask anyone here.
GC1985
@joeyty: You are quite wrong. You have demonstrated that many times. Most homophobia is motivated by religion… Not anything else. Again nobody is saying it all is. Most of the bigotry is based on religious reasons and nonreligious people are generally far more accepting.
Your personal feelings are irrelevant to the reality.
GC1985
@JaredNorthcutt30: That is cool. BTW, I am genderfluid. So I really would be supportive. I just didn’t think it would happen… Perhaps I need to go Pride again. It has been two or three years since I last been to one.
@Captain Obvious: You live in Weho now? Thought you lived in Kentucky or Mississippi.
Stilinski26
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-Su0dcP2VA
This is so sad
Xzamilio
@joeyty: True. I’ll be the first to admit the “yuck” factor is quite prevalent, but also prevalent in individuals who are not necessarily homophobic, but do not want to see two guys kissing.
Baba Booey Fafa Fooey
You need to carry.
GC1985
@Baba Booey Fafa Fooey: Carry? A stick? Lol. Carrying solved nothing.
Stached1
@Mark Coassolo: Yeah like that’s going to solve anything.
surreal33
Two points gay men should be armed and not afraid to use whatever means necessary for self defense. Also we have the right to kiss in public however, is it really worth the risk given the world we live in????
GC1985
@surreal33: Since so many mass shootings occur in state that have conceal carry laws (like Texas), carrying does nothing to prevent or deter crime. Carrying is perhaps more dangerous… A surprise attack could see someone getting their gun taken from them and killed. Genius idea.
