Meet David Kato’s Confessed Killer: Houseguest Nsubuga Enock

Nsubuga Enock says he killed Ugandan activist David Kato in his home after a “personal disagreement” last week. Kato was found dead after being hit in the head with a hammer. Says a police spokeswoman: “He has confessed to the murder. It wasn’t a robbery and it wasn’t because Kato was an activist. It was a personal disagreement but I can’t say more than that.” Enock had been staying with Kato and has a history of committing robberies, and was staying with Kato that week after he bailed Enock out of prison.

Hey I’ll remember that. Next time I have a disagreement with someone, whom I’m a houseguest of, I’ll just grab a hammer and beat the living shite out of them until they die.

They should have stuck with the robbery theory since that sounded just a bit more plausible.

Yeah, I’d much rather this conclusion had been reached by an independent investigator rather than the Ugandan police in service of a government which definitely did not want homophobia to be the motive for the crime. I don’t know what their reputation is but I doubt coerced confessions are unheard of in Uganda.
