Netflix threw some epic shade at Roseanne this week.
As you’ve doubtlessly heard by now, Roseanne showed the world how to lose a #1 hit TV show in 140 characters or less when she called former President Obama aide Valerie Jarrett a Muslim ape on Twitter earlier this week.

Well yesterday, the streaming giant tweeted a little “reminder” to potential subscribers/Roseanne revival viewers that its One Day at a Time sitcom remount “is a sitcom about a tight-knit, working class family that tackles extremely topical social issues, in a smart and innovative way.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“Ya know, if you’re suddenly looking for a show like that….”

The tweet has received almost 80,000 likes and 25,000 retweets.
Meanwhile, Roseanne has been busy insisting that, despite her blatantly racist behavior, she’s not a racist.

“I’m not a racist,” she tweeted yesterday afternoon. “I never was & I never will be. One stupid joke in a lifetime of fighting 4 civil rights 4 all minorities, against networks, studios, at the expense of my nervous system/family/wealth will NEVER b taken from me.”

“Never was & never will be.” Oh, except for that time she called a Black woman an ape.
Here’s a little word to the wise: If you ever find yourself uttering the words “I am not a racist,” there’s a very good chance you’re a racist.
RIGay
One stupid joke? How about this – Google “Roseann Barr Adolph Hitler Photo” and tell me what pops up.
That was her “Stupid ‘I’m not a racist!’ joke!” from 2009.

Funny because she called Susan Rice an Ape not that long ago. Interesting she only uses that term when referring to Black women, she’s done it multiple times…..but oh yeah…she isn’t a racist right?
Just goes to show the whole line about her TV family being rational nice Trump supporters was a load of B.S. Just cover for the same racism he spews.

Netflix really shouldn’t be throwing any shade. House of Cards? Kevin Spacey?
Enough said.
GRM6891
Your analogy makes no sense. ABC isn’t to blame for Roseanne being a racist POS, just as Netflix isn’t to blame for Spacey being a predatory POS. Netflix can throw shade at any show it chooses to, as could ABC.
Paco
Wrong. Both knew about their stars “issues”, but chose to ignore them to make money until it blew up in their corporate faces. Kevin Spacey was a very open secret and Netflix played dumb even when crew members complained. So they really do need to shut up about ABC’s embarrassment with the whole Roseanne train wreck.
DCguy
Roseanne had publicly been racist, Kevin Spaceys crimes weren’t yet public.
But nice attempt to try to deflect from the topic of racism.
Paco
I’m not deflecting, @DC. Just pointing out it is really scummy of Netflix to use ABC’s embarrassment with Roseanne to promote one of their shows when they just had their own problem supporting a sexual predator and did nothing about crew complaints until Anthony Rapp went public. Racism and sexual assault are equally bad.
DCguy
Paco,
Except unlike ABC Spacey’s crimes and issues weren’t public knowledge, while Roseanne’s were.

How is Netflix supposed to know how one talent on their many properties thinks?
RiBrad
While it may be fun for virtue signallers to pile on to Roseanne, it may be worth remembering that her show was a beacon of support for gay people in the 90s when not many others were behind us. Obviously her tweet was not a nice thing to publish but let’s all keep our cool. Valerie Jarrett is a public figure who can definitely cope with way more than an offensive tweet.
DCguy
So lets see, blatant racism was described as “Not Nice”.
Brad, she has called more than one black woman an ape, and Sorry, not holding her responsible for her current racism because she USED to be nice in the past would be like telling women…
“Oh, don’t worry about Harvey Winestein raping you, he donated money to a charity, so even though his raping you was “not nice” you’re coping with it fine right?
Glynn
Yes, Roseanne WAS a beacon in the 90’s, which is why we are so disappointed with her vile statements now. She has thrown herself under the bus. She is clearly still taking Ambien (or whatever) because she will not shut up. Her apologies are ultimately worthless. She a Nasty One!
btrmale
And do you remember the respect she had for THE NATIONAL ANTHEM???? But Trump is defending her. Interesting!!!!!
Mandrake
Let me throw into the mix Samantha Bee calling the daughter of the POTUS a C__T. Let me get this straight. Comparing a person of color to an ape is racist and will get you fired and your show canceled, but calling the POTUS’S daughter a feckless C__T is just fine under the guise of comedy.
jasentylar
What Samantha Bee said is not fine (I despise every last bit of Ivanka), but I would never support anyone being labeled that word. It’s disgusting and classless. Samantha should be disciplined. Sponsors have jumped ship. She will suffer for her actions., but TBS is not ABC/Disney. Whatever happens as a consequence of her speech would be on her. She should have been more respectful.
DCguy
Ted Nugent called Hillary Clinton a C**T and Trump invited him to the White House so I don’t want to hear it from Republicans.
Their intent is clear. They have two goals.
1. They want to take the attention off of Trump Supporter Roseanne’s Racist tweets.
2. They want to move the conversation on Racism so that it becomes defined as no different than somebody calling another person a name.
That is how racist Republicans are…..they want to claim that Ivanka being called a name is equivalent to all members of a race being attacked and discriminated against.
Cylest Brooks
DCguy, this is spot on.
Stilinski26
Lol Netflix one to speak since they are infested with sexual predators
Stephen
Culturally in UK & Canada and Oz and New Zealand c*** and tit are just totally natural commmon terms we never judge. It’s hubdreds of years old. Pre Shakespeare’s and before. Now the utight puritans are so extreme that they are deported to what becomes USA. They decide sexual everything is dirty and vile. So what? You made a religion and think you are the sole arbitrators of language? Intention. It’s all in the intention. You must understand that cultural norms vary.
Plus she apologized.
Plus it was in the script the station knew of and they apologized.
Nobody used the Ambien excuse as per Roseanne. She has no regrets only upset she got called out. The difference is culture and slang. Samantha Bee is Canadian. She is not a Puritan. So wrap your mind around the insight of a different perspective.
I think Roseanne secretly wanted to go overboard to test her number one tv status and wanted now to walk away from it. Maybe she isn’t racist and subconsciously Roseanne wanted to go out on to top and walk away. Self destruct! Boom!
There is a huge difference between both situations.

I’m so sorry that your wealth was hurt in this debacle. I empathize with you as losing money is a Cardinal sin for Trumpsters.

That lady, VJ actually looked like she could have starred in the movie Planet of the Apes. Her hairstyle and features looked like Planet of The Apes. She doesn’t look Black, either. She looks racially ambiguous.
