HELPING HAND

New York’s LGBT Community Center Offers Ali Forney A Shelter From The Storm

New York’s Ali Forney Center was decimated by Hurricane Sandy, leaving thousands of LGBT homeless youth without  access to health care, food and vital services.

With AFC’s space on West 22nd Street rendered uninhabitable, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center stepped in to help. In a joint press release, LGBT Community Center director Glennda Testone and AFC director Carl Siciliano shared that, as of last Thursday, the AFC drop-in center resumed operations at the Community Center, located at 208 West 13th Street in the West Village. Regular drop-in hours will remain Monday through Friday 10am-6pm until Ali Forney is able to move into its new permanent home, which is anticipated to be late December.

Visit the Ali Forney Center website for more information on donating and volunteering.
