Old World Beefcake: Europe Unveils Its Man-didates for 2012 Mr. Gay World

Europe’s eleven studly contenders have been revealed for the upcoming Mr. Gay World competition in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The would-be beauty kings range in age from 21 to 42, and hail mostly from staunchly gay-friendly nations, with the exceptions of Mr. Czech Republic (Tomas Fryda) and Mr. Bulgaria (Chavdar Arsov).

Our faves? France’s Remy Frejaville (30, right), the UK’s Samuel Mark Kneen (23, left), and Norway’s Stephen Grindhaug (21, below).

The 2012 Mr. Gay World competition will begin on April 4, with the grand finale on April 8 at Johannesburg’s Lyric Theatre. In all, 25 men from around the world will compete for the top prize. Contest sections include a photo challenge, a sports challenge, a fashion show/runway challenge, a swimsuit challenge, public speaking, and a local outreach challenge.

“The delegate will treat his body as his temple and will be active and outgoing,” explains the contest’s website. “He will have impeccable grooming standards and has a thorough understanding of what attire is appropriate for each engagement he is to encounter.”

The US’s entry this year is 22-year-old Kevin Scott Power from Westchester, NY.

This will be the fourth Mr. Gay World contest. In the first, in 2009, Mr. Ireland was the champ. The subsequent two bouts have been won by Mr. South Africa.
