Out Now: Contagion, Mildred Pierce, Studly Stepbrothers And More!

Hello, Armageddon! To ring in 2012, our final year of existence (Mayan calendar, y’all!), we’ve got an star-studded pandemic flick, a one-two punch of twink horror from David DeCoteau, and HBO’s acclaimed daughter-dearest miniseries, Mildred Pierce. Work those credit cards—they can’t charge interest after the world ends!

NEXT: Who doesn’t want to see Gwyneth bite it in Contagion?

($35.99 Blu-Ray, $28.98 DVD; Warner Home Video)

A creepy killer virus ravages some of Hollywood’s finest talents— including Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne and a snaggletoothed Jude Law—in Stephen Soderbergh’s gripping modern disaster flick. Extras include a handful of featurettes including “The Reality of Contagion.” Purell sold separately.

NEXT: Winslet is mother to a monster in Mildred Pierce

Mildred Pierce
($49.99 Blu-Ray, $39.98 DVD; HBO)

It’s a good week for fans of Kate Winslet play women in jeopardy: Based on James M. Cain’s 1941 novel, Todd Haynes’ award-winning miniseries for HBO took a different path than the famed Joan Crawford film. Winslet won an Emmy as the titular character, a broke single-mother-turned-entrepreneur whose strained relationship with ingrate daughter Veda (Evan Rachel Wood) is the bane of her existence. Includes a making-of feature, but alas, no pie.

NEXT: Softcore slaughter with the master of the genre, David De Cocteau

1313: Wicked Stepbrother
($19.99 DVD, Rapid Heart)

Gay cinema’s answer to Russ Meyer, David De Coteau serves up another barely clothed twink-fest with this tale of an 18-year-old whose smoking-hot friends get bumped off during his birthday. Oddly, nobody seems to wear shirts. Except for a token middle-aged woman. Nuff said.

NEXT: Fame costs in Actor Slash Model

1313: Actor Slash Model
($19.99 DVD, Rapid Heart)

DeCoteau can’t be stopped! Shot in what appears to be the same mansion as Wicked Stepbrother with lower-rent everything else, this 1313 offering sees a hateful (but hot) twink actor putting the knife to shirtless male models. Add token middle-aged woman and stir.

Justified: The Complete Second Season (Sony)

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (Miramax)
