People furious over fake news story about two pilots caught having gay sex in cockpit mid-flight

A story about two United pilots caught having loud gay sex in the cockpit during an international flight that was published by a satirical news site has been making the rounds on social media.

World News Daily Report recently ran an article headlined “United Airlines pilot and copilot fired for having loud sex together during flight” which began:

United Airlines announced this morning that it had fired two of its employees after they allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse in midflight while the plane’s internal communication system was on.

49-year old Jordan McPhee and 38-year old Bayani Ceniza were operating a Boeing 747 carrying 412 passengers from Manilla to Los Angeles when the speakers in the plane’s passenger area started emitting strange noises.

71-year old Betty Garrison who was aboard with her husband, says that both flight attendants and passengers were shocked when the unidentifiable sounds turned into “a gay porn soundtrack”.

The article claimed that over 30 passengers filed complains with United Airlines, forcing the airline to hold an emergency press briefing in Chicago to address the situation.

The article also said that in 2013, four American Airlines employees were fired after engaging in group sex with 17 passengers.

The whole thing was legit #fakenews, and anyone with half a brain could tell. But that didn’t stop many people from believing it was true. It was shared a purported 45K times on Facebook, with many commenters up in arms about the whole thing.

“This is just terrible,” one person wrote.

“I don’t care who does what where…none of my business…but I don’t want the pilots of my plane doing it and taking their attention away from flying the plane!!” another commented.

“71 year old Betty can mind her damn business, ole dying ass… the rest of them too. It’s just sex, who gives a f*ck,” a third person said.

After the story went viral, the website Lead Stories, which is dedicated to debunking fake news stories, posted a hoax alert informing people that the story was false and that World News Daily Report is a satirical news outlet with a disclaimer on its site that states:

World News Daily Report assumes all responsibility for the satirical nature of its articles and for the fictional nature of their content. All characters appearing in the articles in this website – even those based on real people – are entirely fictional and any resemblance between them and any person, living, dead or undead, is purely a miracle.

It also identified to two men in the article’s featured photo as Captain Thomas Ziarno and First Officer Abdulrahman Mohamed Al Busaeedi, who fly an Airbus 380 for Emirates Airline and not a Boeing 747 for United, as the article states.

The photo is a still frame from a video of the men giving a tour in their cockpit.
