Innovative bicoastal nightlife photographer Davide Laffe is known for his expansive portfolio of drag queens, dancers, models, and some of the most creative characters that go bump in the night. In April of 2014 he reached out to Pinky’s nails with an idea for a series of photo shoots promoting their nails. Lady Gag’s ARTPOP was still fresh on everyone’s minds and Laffe captured each of his subjects lip synching to her “ManiCure” from the album. Laffe brought out all the stops with featuring Drag favorites Alyssa Edwards, Rhea Litrea, and Alaska with studs Michael Silas, Chad LaClair, Julian Serrano, David Terzian, and the over the outrageous scene stealer Ari Kiki. In a recent contest for New York City’s Next magazine, Laffe commented on his photograph of Alaska by stating the image “shows the transition between a gay man and a fabulous drag queen. Under everything we are all human.” ManiCure is not just a homage to Lady Gaga, it’s a celebration of our fabulous community.
