COMING ATTRACTIONS

PHOTOS: Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer In Sexy New Stills From Magic Mike

Our straight bros are counting down to May 4 when Avengers hits theaters, but we’re more excited about June 29, when Channing Tatum‘s bio-pic, Magic Mike, comes out. Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Traffic), it follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money. Oh, and everyone takes their clothes off.
Warner Brothers has released two new stills from the flick, which also stars Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Mangianello, Adam Rodriguez , Olivia Munn and Riley Keough.
Above Ken (Matt Bomer), Mike (Channing Tatum), Tito (Adam Rodriguez) and Big Dick Richie (Joe Manganiello) shake what the good lord gave them.

Very hot, to be sure. But will the movie cover his time working at gay clubs? Or will the mainstream audiences be left with the idea that he only worked at Chippendales?

  • J

A biopic on Channing Tatum? Common! How self-indulgent can you be! I mean, who is he? He’s not even some major Hollywood star. How good is his life story that a film about it has to be made?

  • Gregg

My god Matt Bomer looks hot but no shock there!

  • Spike

Little to soon to label this a ‘gay’ SHOWGIRLS I suppose. It has flop written all over it.

    Why not just watch porn?

  • Nick

For some reason, this doesn’t look sexy at all. I blame McConnaughey.

  • Kayak

@Spike: Some us of likes the sexiness factor sometimes. Porn is great and all, but I get sick of opening my mail box and gay porn ads for new movies are so explicit – for example. It’s nice to see sexy, not just sex.

  • IzzyLuna

Agreed. Channing’s movie is a total “vanity project”. He’s not even going to show full frontal according to a few articles. So, I’m out. Why else would I watch this? The acting? The storyline?

  • Reynolds better half

@Kayak: Totally agree with you and LOL at those that say they will not be seeing this. There won’t be a gay man alive that will not see this in theater or DVD. Full frontal would get NC17 and kill the financials so no shock they didn’t go there. Where can I get my advanced ticket? These men are beautiful.

  • Christopher

@J: Its not a biopic. Its a comedy based on his time as a stripper, there’s a difference, and you know that.

If some people can’t find something negative to say, they just make stuff up!!

When did we become such a cynical group of people, that we can tell a movie is bad or good based on 6 available photos, lol. I mean really even the nastiest of internet trolls usually waits until they have a full minute of trailer to criticize.

  • J

If I do watch it,it will just be the sexy scenes. That’s all!

And Spike, yes,I too think it has flop written all over it.Don’t think it will help the career of the our gay Matt Boner there!

  • J

@Christopher: No! I did not know that.

It says bio-pic in the article!

  • The Real Mike in Asheville

@J: If the movie was a true bio-pic, the title of the movie would have been Magic Channing, not Magic Mike.

And this is most certainly not a Channing Tatum vanity project. Steven Soderbergh has 14 Oscar nominations and 5 Oscar wins, including two best director Oscars. This is a Soderbergh project loosely based on Tatum’s life story.

Instead of projecting whines about the movie as a failure, why not hope for great success as this story is about a STRAIGHT man who’s self confidence about himself and his masculinity makes him unafraid of supporting his major league gay following. This is a win for our side; and we only get to win when the massively straight majority switch their opinions for yikes to live-and-let-live.

  • Spike

@Reynolds better half: An advanced ticket huh, just a tiny bit desperate? Yep, opening weekend the theater will be packed full with overweight wannabe cougars and desperate gays. Sure I’ll catch it, years later when it’s playing all over cable TV due to it’s ‘camp’ appeal ala SHOWGIRLS.

  • M

I think you all will be pleasantly surprised by the film 🙂

  • Reynolds better half

    @Spike: Wow, you sound old…

  • Oops

@Reynolds better half: Is being or sounding old supposed to be an insult? It’s inevitable that we will all get older…I don’t get it…I would suggest you take several seats and read this while you’re at it.. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/01/fashion/the-life-and-death-of-the-therapist-bob-bergeron.html?pagewanted=1&_r=3&adxnnlx=1333305475-gbeBKsG6IOslvrRVUbuiQw

  • Thom Prentice

I agree: is it just Chippendale’s or does the film cover his life? And, Yes, verry hot.

  • tlbuffin

@J: Steven Soderbergh must have found some intrinsic value in it , he doesn’t direct trash. He doesn’t have to.

  • Neil Elliot

Overweight cougars and desperate gays……..hey, dude, could we have a bit more entitlement and judgement please?@Spike:

  • Spike

@Reynolds better half: You sound young. BTW, I’m just find with my age, and the maturity that it reflects. Not something that I would expect you to understand, being, young.

  • Mk_Ultra_Again

I don’t think I’m going to go see it in the theater. Mainly because I usually don’t go the the theater at all. The last movie I saw there was Avatar. Before that, I can’t remember. Of course, if there was full frontal (hopefully in 3D, if you know what I mean) by any one of the leading men, you can bet your ass I’ll be in that theater. But I will definitely see it when it comes out for home.. Love, love, love Channing Tatum and Matt Bomer.

  • Mykey

they must have had so much fun shooting this…

  • Kevin in Cincy

@The Real Mike in Asheville: Agreed. Aside from being one SEXY-ASS MOFO, Channing Tatum is well aware of and APPECIATES his gay following. I, personally happen to to think he’s probably the most all-around beautiful man — gay or str8 — walking this planet. And a genuinely nice guy to boot. What’s not to love? 😉

  • Paul

McConaughey – YUM, Bomer – YUM, Pettyfer, oh wait…Tatum…the guy who can single handedly bring a movie down about three notches? Never mind…

  • LLM

The biopic thing is just sloppy journalism. A movie about someone sharing the events of their lives os a biopic. A movie with amalgamated characters, places, and events that is based on/inspired by someone’s life is just that, but not a biopic.

  • slippy

Early “buzz” on this is that its really quite good. Just reading how the actors bonded while rocking out in thongs is enough for me to get a ticket. There is also a “balcony” film of Tatum back in the day when he was “dancing” and that boy has some MOVES. Just wait till the next hipster thing is for all the buff Brazilian waxxed jocks to be dancing for their chicks n buds in thongs ala Magic Mike -this could start a trend….

  • slippy

Ok Link to Channing’s “dancing ” video from his early days I referenced above :

  • Ted B. (Charging Rhino)

Matt Bomer’s hubby is a very lucky man, ….just saying.

  • jeff m

@Paul: 21 jumpstreet is a bona fide hit, and tatum is charming in it. So think before you spout……

  • Paul

@jeff m: Sorry jeff m…I’ve seen enough of his work already that I can’t bear to see anything he does anymore and I think my burning eyes would melt out of my head if I saw anymore…his acting is just so painful to watch. Perhaps comedy is his forte.

  • Kevin in Cincy

What@Paul: What a pretty pathetic commentary on your role as self-appointed film critic AND general all-around, catty, hateful (read: JEALOUS) gay guy. Sometimes, when I hear the likes of folks like yourself, it honestly makes me be ashamed (and unhappy)to be gay. Don’t let me steal your self-appointed thunder. Just remember this: Next time you go hatin’, ask your yourself: “How am I coming off?” NOT GOOD… 🙁

  • Ty

@jeff m: Agreed. For the longest time I thought Channing had no talent after seeing movies like Step Up and the sort, but 21 Jump Street shows he is rather good at comedy and made me interested in him again.

  • Paul

@Kevin in Cincy: What the fuck is up your butt, Kev? I’m simply giving my opinion – I’ve seen quite a few of the movies he’s been in, and frankly, from what I’ve seen, I think he’s a terrible actor. Who the fuck do you think you are?

  • Kevin in Cincy

@Paul: To answer your questions: 1)I just think I’m over the bitchiness tinged w/just a bit of jealousy/”competition”(?) so common(YAWN) among gay guys, Pauly Paul, that’s all. Who the Fuck do I think I am? I think — know — I’m not that way. 3) What the fuck is up my butt, Pauly Paul? Nothing, at the moment (hasn’t been for a long while, BTW). I WOULD make an exception for Channing Tatum, though… 😉 BTW, not that I want to get off the track of the thread, but, what’s with the hate? 🙁

  • Kevin in Cincy

Oops, before ya go hatin’ again, Yeah, I missed 2)…

  • Paul

@Kevin in Cincy: Where did you see any “hatin”, Kev? Just because I’m making a statement I believe that even Tatum himself admitted to? Even he doesn’t think he’s that great an actor. My opinion makes me a “hater”? And just because I’m state an opinion you apparently disagree with, I’m catty? And I’m jealous? Of what? Making some pretty damn big assumptions there considering you haven’t met me, Kev. You think you’re over the bitchiness, Kev…I doubt it, really, because you come off sounding like a real, bitchy, cunty little diva who gets all pissy when someone thinks differently from you. Tough shit, isn’t it? Considering that Channing is one “sexy-ass mofo” per your first comment (#23 in this thread), that clearly indicates where your priorities are.

Shame you haven’t been fucked in a while, but considering your self-absorbed, bitchy stance, interested in projecting your faults on others type mentality, I’m not surprised. Maybe you wouldn’t be acting like such a whiny little douche bag if you had been.

  • Ty

@Paul: You’re forgetting something big though with Magic Mike. Nobody is going to go to this movie to see Channing Tatum act 🙂

  • Paul

Where did you see any “hatin”, Kev? Just because I’m making a statement I believe that even Tatum himself admitted to? Even he doesn’t think he’s that great an actor. That’s like me assuming you are a big prima donna who likes to project his insecurities on to other people that don’t agree with you (cause you sure come off that way). I think your first comment on this thread (#23) makes it pretty clear where your priorities are.

  • Kevin in Cincy

@Paul: Pauly Paul, Here’s where we’re at. You may not “get” this, but, seriously, I respect your opinion(s) — and you certainly have them — whether it be about me or Chan (Yes, we’re friends).I just think you’re trying to be internet “cute” and engage me in some kinda fucked-up personal attack which I have no interest in doing. I’ll leave the name calling (“Prima Donna”? FORREAL?) to you, Bub. LOVEYAMEANIT…P.S. Once again, we’re (well, you) are off the thread. If you really wanna be relevant, stay on course. Personal attacks look like, well, catty personal attacks. They just do…

  • Paul

    @Kevin in Cincy: You started it, honey. Here’s a thought…GFY. buh-bye.

  • Kevin in Cincy

@Paul: Toodaloo, Miss Princess. Obviously your thoughts are not mine. As Martha Stewart would say, “It’s a good thing…” 🙁

  • Wendy

i wait to DVD. the film wont have not even a minimal gay themed subject. as i heard Channin Tatum worked his way up in hollywood by being bisexual and doing crafty things to become who he is now. The film wont cover that part of his life. Many actors get where they at by doing some crafty sexual things behind closed doors…

  • M

    @Wendy:

True. Channing is bisexual and that has helped him plenty in Hollywood.

The movie won’t even touch that with a ten-foot pole.

  • D P

@Gregg: – Hey Gregg, I agree. And, thank you for informing me that Matt Bomer is a god. I guess now I’ll have to no longer say I’m agnostic and say that I DO have a higher power to worship. Gladly.

  • Kevin in Cincy

@The Real Mike in Asheville: Ditto, Bub… 🙂

  • Kevin in Cincy

@Paul: @Paul: I’ll keep that tidbit of misinformed (and unwanted) advice in mind, Paul. But I do guess I know who to write if I want a misinformed (and unwanted) DICKHEAD up my ass. Don’t hate Channing Tatum because he’s something you could never be. ONLY a Gay Dude (and I am one) would come up with that bitchy bullshit. The difference bewteen myself & you? I don’t judge as I’m sure you and I both know that doesn’t work, STRAIGHT OR GAY. What’s with the hate, Brother? I ain’t buyin’…

  • Kevin in Cincy

@M: Channing Tatum is NOT bisexual. I happen to know Dude and he just happens to be one of the coolest, most Gay-Friendly, straight, easy-on-the-eyes brothers around. No more, no less…
