Here we go again. As usual, Islamophobes across the nation are blaming all of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims for the massacre in Orlando.

To combat this, many queer Muslim members have taken to social media to remind others in the LGBTQ community that, despite what folks like Donald Trump are saying, the entire Islamic religion cannot be blamed for last weekend’s tragedy.

Hell yeah they do. If you are out of the Middle East drop this thug cult or go back to your sandbox and live with it in it’s true form. Death to islam and death to the scum god allah. It and it’s followers have no place in the civilized world.
GC1985
Gay trump supporters. Luckily less than 5% of our community. A bunch of savage self hating idiots who support a man who would create even more refugees with his backwards policies.
Stilinski26
Stop worrying about Islamophobia and focus on the extreme homophobia in Muslim communities. As we speak the guy who said he was gay and Muslim is already getting backlash and death threats from his fellow Muslims!We condemned Christians for not baking cake for a gay couple so we have every right to condemn Islam and other regions as well.
The regressive left propaganda needs to stop!
Addyboo
So we can’t blame all Muslims for the actions of this one asshole, but we can blame all gun owners for the actions of this one asshole?? Ignorance and hypocrisy abound.
GC1985
Except English isn’t the official language. So try again. People are going to speak the language they want.
Anyways… It is confirmed… there is a huge backlash against Trump right now. He messed this one up so badly. All over the media and on social media he is being skewered. He should have kept his hair brain theories to himself. I’m starting to think he is in it to help Hillary.
Leonard Woodrow
@lykeitiz:
Sadly true! No matter how much they try to whitewash Muslim teaching, the bottom line is that same-sex love is vilified by their “holy” book. The same applies to Christianity and the Bible.
kzen64
There are as many strains of Islam as there are sects of Christianity. We ought to be able to call out the ones that are violent, regressive, and the primary source for these terrorists. That is no different than calling out “catholic” IRA bombers.
Now, this particular guy seems to have self-radicalized. He was a security guard, previously cleared by the FBI, so what additional law would have prevented him from buying any sort of gun. He passed his background check. He didn’t do anything illegal until he started firing his weapon at that club.
Alistair Wiseman
@Leonard Woodrow:
However, one big difference Leonard, I am not “vilified by the holy book” at my Christian church.
Alistair Wiseman
@kzen64:
“…so what additional law would have prevented him from buying any sort of gun.”
Exactly. “But…but…it’s the guns, it’s the guns” – we hear over and over.
The truth is, most of these mass shootings occur and no gun laws have been broken.

As a gay Christian man that has formerly lived in Islamic nations for work (Qatar, UAE, Oman, Jordan, Egypt) there are TONS of gay Muslim men and women there, yes it is on the DL, yes, homosexuality is illegal but gays aren’t hunted to “out” there for sport either. As for Islam like in USA for example there can be one church in your neighborhood that you know is good and preaches kindness and goodness etc… and across the street is the radical lets hate for kicks church, it is the same in the middle east and people are aware of it over there too. Islam is indeed a religion of peace just like Christianity. However they both are also filled with abominable things I can’t and probably won’t ever wrap my head around. My point is, don’t paint everyone or Islam with the same brush.
Terrycloth
Faith can move mountains ? I know what it does to skyscrapers .
Kangol
@Alistair Wiseman: Are you out at your Christian church? Do you not know how much the Old Testament does vilify homosexuality? How major mainstream Christian religions vilify homosexuals? How Pope Benedict, while still Cardinal Ratzinger, wrote one of the most extremely homophobic documents ever, calling gay people “objectively ordered” and same-sex acts “intrinsically evil”? Do you belong to a gay-affirming Christian church? Do you realize many are not and that Christianity is being used to push anti-gay laws in the US in 2016? Do you speak out against anti-gay Christian clerics the way you do against anti-gay Muslim ones?
Also, Donald Trump did blame all Muslims by calling for a blanket Muslim ban yesterday.
Lastly, no one is saying taking away everyone guns. But why won’t the GOP support stopping known terrorists from getting them? And why does any citizen need an assault rifle or semi-automatic weaponry? Do you support allowing nutcases like Mateen and the Sandy Hook and Aurora, Colorado terrorists to amass arsenals?
Kangol
@lykeitiz: You do realize that trashing Latinxs at any time, but especially after 40+ Latinxs–most of whom spoke Spanish and a number of whom were immigrants or from immigrants–were slaughtered, is particularly hateful and offensive, right? Is your hate that strong that you don’t see how repellant your comments are?

lgbt community just as hateful as isis, just not as violent. the only difference.
Matt Achine
This is so beyond a pot calling a kettle black, it’s unreal. Gays should be the LAST mofos to paint any other communities with a broad brush, but technology fools idiots into thinking their hateful $.02 is requested or warranted. Maybe these genius queens like it when their own tribe is painted as immoral, disease carrying filth that should die. But this is the American way, hate because you’ve been hated and want the balance of power to tilt toward you. They’re too mentally challenged to see that their logic applies just as much to white guys who shoot up schools, churches, movie theaters & abortion clinics. People from every walk of life get slaughtered by a whack job of any persuasion in this country, but suddenly just one group should be banned as if only gays are targets? These fuckers have a sudden political interest because of Pulse nightclub, but probably had jack shit to say about police brutality for years. Yeah, align with the party that didn’t want you to have marriage rights at all, but do zero about not being able to donate blood to shooting victims. These numb-nuts crusaders need a permanent break from Twitter. “Assimilate” that.
Prinny
For those who defend Islam and say that this isn’t Islam’s fault.Tell that to the corpses of the people who died ,tell that to the parents who have to bury their children because of the religion you defend.And please continue lying to yourself that you’re following a religion of peace.
gayhope1990
@Prinny:Hear Hearit’s just a start in the West.Every day lgbt people are murdered in the Muslim world,homosexuality is banned in all Muslim countries.
Prinny
@gayhope1990: Unfortunately I know that 🙁
Matt Achine
@Prinny: Yet the vast majority of Muslims don’t engage in this violence at all, which immediately refutes your condescending assumptions. If the shooter has free will in a democratic society, how the fuck is the religion to be blamed? Now tell me how every Catholic man is a child molester and all Jews are cheap, because surely your point of view is consistent!
Paco
@Tobi: The only part of that article I agree with is this line…
“Until Islam is tolerant of gay rights, we cannot tolerate Islam.”
But I would go further and say that of any religion with anti gay beliefs and verses that have power over the minds of millions of faithful followers. And I am so tired of these religions being let off the hook because a very silent minority are ok with gays. They teach to love one another in general, but still point out gays as being wrong and against the teachings of their religions. No religion will ever get my support until they remove the anti-gay stuff from their outdated dogma.
Alistair Wiseman
@Kangol:
Gosh, I wonder who the New York Times is going to vote for? Oh, that’s right, Hillary Clinton.
“Also, Donald Trump did blame all Muslims by calling for a blanket Muslim ban yesterday.”
No, he didn’t. Did you read the Times article that you linked? Did you notice the lack of Trump quotations? I did and he never said it.
From Trump’s own website posted on 6/13/16:
I will use this power (to suspend U.S. entry) to protect the American people. When I am elected, I will suspend immigration from areas of the world when there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies, until we understand how to end these threats.
After a full, impartial and long overdue security assessment, we will develop a responsible immigration policy that serves the interests and values of America.”
That statement, which you can look up, is completely different than what you just said. He did not blame all Muslims, it is not a ban and it is temporary.
And yes, everyone in my life (including my church) knows I’m gay. Yes, my church is gay-affirming just like hundreds of other U.S. Christian churches.

Closet cases are selfish cowards and they are the worst. They are the real enemy of the LGBT community – not brainwashed Kim Davis’. It is because these cowardly men (many whom marry women because “OMG society/religion will judge me”) that people continue to be homophobic. *Everyone* has a gay friend or sibling, they just refuse to come out. Gays can’t complain about the gay community not having visibility then refuse to come out. But apps like Grindr lets these guys have their cake and eat it too.

“Here we go again. As usual, Islamophobes across the nation are blaming all of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims for the massacre in Orlando.”

Why aren’t most of those 1.6 billion Muslims openly teaching that gay is ok? If the anti-gay Muslims are the minority, then why do they have more influence and power to affect the lives of LGBT people than the peaceful majority?
joeyty
Too bad. Muslims should be begging our forgiveness.
Stache
@Matt Achine: Try living a gay life in the muslim middle east then and be sure to get back to us on all the loving you got while living there.
MaxH
@kzen64: With the exception of Hezbollah (Though fighting Israel is more about liberation than terror) which is Shite, all the other Islamic terrorist groups are Sunni Muslims, which make up 85-90% of all adherents. So it seems you agree we should call out the vast majority of Muslims. Well let me tell you, some of us have been calling them out for a while and we get accused of racism. This is despite the fact Islam is an ideology and I don’t respect any ideology but my own but I respect their followers and the right to live in a country other than my own.
dannyal
sadly, speaking from my own personal experience, i believe while only the minority in Islam actually practice this kind of hate and violence, the majority silently agree and bless the minority’s action thinking in their hearts that we “kinda” deserve it. They won’t publicly condone the violence, but their silence speaks volume. For a size of 1.3 billion people, it sure does sound awfully quiet from them, doesn’t it? not even a sympathy offered. those who speak out, I notice, are the ones who are muslim AND gay, which is obvious for a reason.
Xzamilio
It’s not the 1.3 billion, and most of us critical of Islam know this, so that strawman is beyond old. This is the crap I’m sick of, the profuse apologizing for the obvious barbarism in the minority (which numbers in the millions) and then the ones that actually do the sweeping generalization of them, which the ones at the forefront are absolutely not doing (save Trump’s aggressively dangerous and stupid ass). There is a huge problem in Islam and most of us know it, including the ones using the “not all Muslims” trope.
Homophobia is an irrational fear… being afraid that you might come across that one extremist that will behead you or blow you up is not irrational. But, ultimately, secular and progressive Muslims are the ones that need to be brought out to the forefront to at least usher in a narrative change that makes this nonsensical religion as benign as Judaism overall has become and Christianity, to a lesser but still significant extent.
And this from an atheist, so spare me your Islamophobe nonsense. I’m religion-phobe. It serves no purpose in a modern world.
Xzamilio
“Homophobia is NOT an irrational fear”
Is NOT!! NOT!!
Fuck, that’s an unfortunate error on my part
Paco
@Xzamilio: A Catholic bishop has had the courage to admit that religion is partly responsible for hatred against LGBT. I hope he isn’t too harshly sanctioned for admitting the truth. Hopefully other representatives of religion will admit this too.

“Sadly it is religion, including our own, which targets, mostly verbally, and also often breeds contempt for gays, lesbians and transgender people. Attacks today on LGBT men and women often plant the seed of contempt, then hatred, which can ultimately lead to violence.”
Rob91316
This is a case of “too little, too late.” I’ve been waiting nearly 15 years — ever since 9/11 — for the global Muslim community as a whole to vocally and visibly condemn the horrific acts of the supposed few amongst them. Instead, all I’ve heard is crickets from that community while one terrorist attack after another has been carried out by Islamic fundamentalists across the world.
While I can appreciate that Muslims living in the Mid-east and in other Islamic fundamentalist countries face impossible circumstances in speaking out against the evils of their religion, there are more than 1 billion Muslims scattered all over the world — many in western, 1st world countries like Europe and the U.S. — who should have no compunction or fear whatsoever about publically condemning the vile acts of the murderous thugs their twisted religion breeds. Only now are the Muslims living in this country coming out in droves to speak out against these acts and those who commit them. And I have to wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that in a few short months, we may have a POTUS who is going to line every last one of them up for deportation back to their impoverished, barbarian, shit-hole homelands.
To the so-called “peaceful” Muslims who say they want to live in harmony with Western civilization, I say this — your silence all these years equates to complicity in the crimes against humanity committed by YOUR people, and your vocal denouncing of these acts only now, when you are on the precipice of facing extremely dire consequences for your silence and complicity, smacks of hollow, self-preserving rhetoric rather than any true compassion or concern for the OTHER 6 billion people on this planet that do not follow your twisted, evil, perverted religion.
Alistair Wiseman
@Rob91316:
Bingo! That has been my problem as well.
KerryB
Boo hoo. Sorry to inform you but being a Muslim IS A LIFESTYLE CHOICE! Religion is the only contagious form of MENTAL ILLNESS!
Invert
@Alistair Wiseman: most of us are still reeling from the lifetime of hate thrown at us by that other “loving religion”, Christianity, that we have trouble adjusting quickly to the relatively new threat of Islam.
Are you seriously maintaining that Christianity hasn’t been the organisation at the forefront of the battle against gay rights in the Western world? That Christians haven’t been the group most responsible for discrimination, violence and hate against gays?
jag4313
I’ve met many many Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindu, Buddhist and Atheist people who are gay, just living in this world trying to get by like the rest of us. All have been ordinary people. These people causing the attacks are extremists. There is a difference. Every religion claims to be against homosexuality yet there are gays that fall under every single religion. Do you feel like being gay and Christian is wrong? Do you feel that being gay and Jewish is wrong? Do you feel that being gay and Muslim is wrong? If so, then we are ALL wrong. We will all rot in the pits of “Hell”. Just think about it.
Chris
Well according to the logic that blames all Muslims for the acts of one self-loathing, closeted, possibly-Muslim homophobe, I guess we should condemn ALL of Christianity for the hateful words of one Baptist minister in Sacramento who was sad that so few of us had been killed. —– NOT!
Let’s try to get outside of our narrow points of view and recognize that there are extremists who will seize any excuse to act. All Western religions provide the easiest excuses for extremists because they haven’t changed with the times and because (unlike Eastern religions) they focus on controlling their followers.

the gay community hates christians. that is clear, over and over christians are ridiculed, called names and disavowed, particularly on Queerty. so now, another religion is being defiled by these same gay haters. Islam. Gays hate Islam. Fuck the whole Allah delusion, fuck muslims fuck all that. Just read above and see for yourself how gays hate Islam. See how gays are getting ready to vote for Trump. Invert
@o.codone: come ON. Christians and Muslims hate gays because what they believe to be the word of their god tells them to hate gays. They -and Christians are the worst because their religion specifically tells them not to do this- judged us first, so gays judge them back.
So now the Muslims are coming to get us? Join the queue, it’s a long one.
Alistair Wiseman

It’s cute that gay Muslims want to fight Islamophobia in the gay community. But, first, they need to address homophobia in the Muslim community.
