Please let your editors know that in the United States, the correct spelling is “gray”.

There is no “correct” way to spell “grey/gray”. Both are the same word and come from the same source, “gr?g”. The common way of spelling it has flip-flopped over the centuries. It’s only in recent times that “gray” had become common in the USA while “grey” is common in the rest of the English speaking world. There are certain exceptions like proper nouns but both spellings are interchangeable.
