As Australia Prime Minister Kevin Rudd promises to 86 one territory’s civil union laws, the very first one took place just under his nose.
Congratulations to happy couple Warren McGaw and Chris Rumble, who turned their 20-year partnership into Australia’s first legally recognized gay union, wedding today in the Australian Capital Territory, whose state government passed civil union laws earlier this month.
But the pair is already preparing for a Prop 8-esque situation: “We’ll be really disappointed and devastated if [the legislation] does get overturned.” That’s because Rudd’s federal government wants to withdraw any power ACT thinks it has in violating federal law. For now, though, it’s about picking out the fine china.

Fuck the spam.
Also, the Senate Inquiry into the Federal Same-Sex Marriage has been recommended that the bill should not pass.
More detail here:

Saturday 28th of November is the rally day for all the Aussies to get together and recommend the bill be passed.

This isn’t a gay marriage. It’s a civil partnership.
Don’t rely on Australia’s gays to get anywhere. They’re abysmal in terms of activism. The Labor Party (equivalent to the Democrats) treats them as the useful idiots, promising them lots of things to get their votes but failing to deliver.
It’s amazing how many of Australia’s dunderhead gays keep falling for the con.

jason… speak for yourself and don’t generalise the Australian Gay populus please.
There are many of us in the community who DO realise that this is not acceptable… but understand that you gotta do with what you got.
We know that the government of Australia is not doing its job, is hypocritical and is trying to bluff us. But no amount of action at this time can change anything so we do what we can.
The Australian Goverment has decided that same-sex partners must declare themselves on tax returns, government benefits and to all government departments as of July this year… yet they still do not understand that allowing the term MARRIAGE into the gay vernacular is the next step in the equation… I personally don’t see what the big issue is … but *shrug* what can ya do. I cannot make Kevin Rudd understand what its like not to have the same priveleges that the rest of my family do.. and until he understands I don’t think things will change…
*goes off to build the “Big Gay Gun” to shoot at the Prime Minister to make him a big second class Australian with all the bullshit but no ceremony*
