Here’s one performance that unequivocally does not call for zebras: Mariah Carey belted out a heartbreaking tribute to the late, great George Michael over the weekend in Dubai.
“One More Try” is off Michael’s 1987 debut album Faith, which Carey first covered in 2014.
“He was a really great person. So we’ll make it through this,” she told the crowd before launching into the emotional ballad.
“We miss you, George Michael,” she added on Facebook.

George Michael‘s funeral was held last week, three months after his unexpected death at age 53.

I’d hardly call that stunning. Not only did she greatly shorten the song, but she was constantly looking down to read the lyrics! She still sounds good, but she always comes off as so fake and with so much attitude in her performances.

Yeah, there was nothing stunning about this. She was in tune and managed to hit the notes without massive voice cracks. But I guess that’s the bar we’ve lowered for her nowadays. To me she sounds like she’s around 70% of her former strength and abilities. For people wanting to see a real tribute search out Aretha Franklin serenading Carol King with Natural Woman at Kennedy Center a year ago. She was 73 yrs old at the time and her voice runs laps around Mariah’s failing throat.

It was beautiful. Most tributes are shortened… looking down to read the lyrics…omg! Would’nt you want to get the words right too. I saw no attitude at all. Even at 70% of her former voice, she still sounds better than 90% of other singers. Don’t be a hater.

I’m not a Mariah fan (too much shade thrown at Madonna over the years), but I was looking forward to listening to this. And then she only sang the first verse! The best part is the bridge and final chorus, which Mariah could have blown out of the park.

Meh.

Really looked forward to it. Underwhelmed, even though I try not to hold performers to the standard of their former performing selves.
