Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black seem like the perfect couple, but even the happiest of relationships have their occasional rough patches.
For the first time, Daley and Black opened up about the time the pair took a brief hiatus in their romance so he could focus on preparing for the Rio 2016 games and Black could finish up work on a TV project in the U.S.
It was during that period that Daley had cybersex with another man. He recounts sending pictures and videos of himself to a 23-year-old in Liverpool over the course of 11 months.

“I’m 22 years old,” he tells The Sun in a remarkably candid interview, “and if you talk to someone through social media, it is what it is. It was nothing more than that. We never physically met.”
“In the modern world this is what can happen. Things are more accessible online, and distributed, and they spread like wildfire. People are just exploring and finding out what can be done and how easy it is to not even think about what you’re doing online.”

It’s a lesson for us all on how to navigate the challenges of a long distance relationship and busy careers.
Daley says the episode actually brought the couple even closer together.
“We don’t have secrets in our relationship,” Daley says. “We’re honest and open about everything. When we were back together I told him everything.”
Black agreed, telling The Sun: “Tom and I talked about anything and everything that went on. That’s the secret to how we are so close and can survive tough times.”
“We’re soulmates,” Tom added, “and the only way that we were going to get back to that point was to be honest, open and share everything that happened in our time away from each other.”
We wish the couple all the best and commend them on their openness.

It’s not that these two seem like the perfect couple. It’s just that no one really cares to go deeper than what is presented because these two are quite uninteresting.

It pays to be sceptical of any couple that presents a picture-postcard image of perfection in the media. In fact, the more meticulously curated the image, the more likely that there are problems in the relationship. Humans aren’t perfect, simple as that. We make mistakes. Ironically, the most grounded, centred couples are the ones who would never in a million years want to put their relationships on public display. The people who do, tend to have a gnawing need for attention, validation or admiration from complete strangers. To those gay couples who say they are doing it to “normalise” gay relationships in the media, I would say stop. Any out gay person who is moderately social, personally knows of gay couples and the milestones and messiness they go through. We don’t need to be seeing Neil Patrick Harris and hubby in their NYC townhouse stuffed with bric a brac, or Tom and Dustin in their matching designer robes. The REAL people you know in relationships are the ones to watch and learn from. Now, it seems Tom and Dustin are in a panicky haste to get married. My advice would be to hold off for at least two or three years, slash the social media coverage and really concentrate on making it work away from the public eye. Somehow I don’t think they’ll be taking my advice. Appearances matter to these two, to the point that they effectively projected to the world that they were together when in fact they were apparently apart for seven months.

Seeing that Dustin has bareback sex photos with a prostitute all over the internet I’m not surprised that neither one of these find this scenario to be a problem. The minute Daley didn’t win gold in Rio was when the clock started ticking for the end of this relationship.

It’s a sign of what’s to come. Tom is 22 and Dustin is over 40. He’s young and virile and Dustin’s libido isn’t going to be able to keep up with his much longer. Also they joked about how Dustin has a crush on Shawn Mendes whose even younger than Tom and barely legal. The guy has a type and Tom is slowly aging out of it.
