John Travolta had plenty to say to NY Times journo Jesse Green. Like what? Well, he again defended Scientology’s allegedly homophobia, “Scientology is one of the least homophobic religions. It’s not very interested in the body at all.” Except restricting it, of course.
The Hairspray star’s words fall a little flat after Green’s wry opening:
We had only just met, but John Travolta, big and handsome and hypnotic, was fondling the lapel of my navy blue blazer. “Ooh, what a great idea to match this with a cobalt blue shirt,” he cooed. “I wouldn’t have thought of that.”
You’re a good actor, Travolta, but not that good.

Here’s a few things about Lafayette Ronald Hubbard, the wife-beating drug addict who looked at the world’s religions and was disappointed by their lack of space aliens and acronyms.
Politically, he was basically a right-wing anticommunist McCarthyite. He was a racist too: he supported South African apartheid and even joined forces with the segregationist White Citizens’ Council (the “respectable” alternative to the Ku Klux Klan).
Sound tolerant to you?
Wait till you hear what he thought about fags…
“The sexual pervert (and by this term Dianetics, to be brief, includes any and all forms of deviation in Dynamic II [i.e. sexuality] such as homosexuality, lesbianism, sexual sadism, etc., and all down the catalog of Ellis and Krafft-Ebing) is actually quite ill physically… he is very far from culpable for his condition, but he is also far from normal and extremely dangerous to society…”
And would you believe he didn’t even go to college?
He wrote that these perverts were “skulking coward[s] who yet contains enough perfidious energy to strike back, but not enough courage ever to give warning.” He wrote that “Free Love, easy marriage and quick divorce” were repugnant, “since it is non-survival not to have a well ordered system for the creation and upbringing of children, by families.” And not only do faggots fail to contribute to the population, but they work towards “the pollution and derangement of sex itself so as to make it as repulsive as possible to others and so to inhibit procreation.” This guy was almost as tolerant as Fred Phelps!
But what did Hubbard suggest we do with all these horrible perverts (or 1.1 individuals, as his bullshitting obscurantism insists on calling them)? “Such people should be taken from the society as rapidly as possible and uniformly institutionalized;” (Just for the record, Hubbard strongly opposed psychiatry – He’d have sent schizophrenics onto the street to make room for queers.) “…for here is the level of the contagion of immorality, and the destruction of ethics; here is the fodder which secret police organizations use for their filthy operations.” (Maybe if we didn’t threaten to institutionalize them, they wouldn’t be as susceptible to blackmail? Just a thought.) “One of the most effective measures of security that a nation threatened by war could take would be rounding up and placing in a cantonment, away from society, any 1.1 individual who might be connected with government, the military, or essential industry…” (Because the last thing a country needs during wartime is all the help it can get. What if Rosie the Riveter had spent the war in a lesbian internment camp?) “…since here are people who, regardless of any record of their family’s loyalty, are potential traitors, the very mode of operation of their insanity being betrayal. In this level is the slime of society, the sex criminals, the political subversives, the people whose apparently rational activities are yet but the devious writhings of secret hate.”
As opposed to the all-American writhings of overt hate.
Oh, incidentally, Hubbard’s son Quentin was gay, and (amazingly) committed suicide in 1976.
Despite the relocation of its founder in 1986 to a galaxy far, far away, the Church of Scientology continues to define marriage as the union between a man and a woman.
But none of this matters, because Scientology is a bunch of incoherent drivel anyway, an overgrown self-help book with an overzealous legal department. John Travolta may not be a homophobe, but he’s certainly a fucking idiot.

And one more thing, shouldn’t the Times be running a correction to JT’S RIDICULOUS statement?
