It was only a matter of time before nutbag Republicans synthesized their two hot topics of hatred: gay marriage and gun control. Now Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) has done it splendidly, clearly explaining how limiting the number of rounds in a magazine is like marrying your dog.
In a conference call with reactionary activist Rick Scarborough Gohmert said:
In fact, I had this discussion with some wonderful, caring Democrats earlier this week on the issue of, well, they said “Surely you could agree to limit the number of rounds in a magazine, couldn’t you? How would that be problematic?”
…And I pointed out, well, once you make it ten, then why would you draw the line at ten? What’s wrong with nine? Or eleven? And the problem is once you draw that limit; it’s kind of like marriage when you say it’s not a man and a woman any more, then why not have three men and one woman, or four women and one man, or why not somebody has a love for an animal?
There is no clear place to draw the line once you eliminate the traditional marriage and it’s the same once you start putting limits on what guns can be used, then it’s just really easy to have laws that make them all illegal.
He also masterfully linked marriage equality to Obamacare:
You need to educate yourselves on the issues: You need to understand that when there is a law being pushed, as it has for several years, that says that religious institutions should not be exempt from discrimination laws, that it is going to devastate the church, the synagogue, the places of worship that hires people. Because ultimately they’re saying you have to hire whatever Satan-worshiper, whatever cross-dresser you think might be immoral, that’s against your religious belief.
You are going to be forced to abandon your religious beliefs, and we’ve been seeing that with some of the requirements under Obamacare.
And they called Reagan the Great Communicator!

The GOP has now lost two national elections by trying to continually scare people about “The Gays” and getting these nutbag right wingers as their candidates.
If they want to continue the trend, then by all means keep electing these folks.

@Cam: I couldn’t agree more. The Republicans refuse to get off of their tired script of hatred and oppression. Jesus, I hope their time machine has enough power to transport all of them back to the 1950s.

You both are very correct. Actually, I think the Republicans are realizing that the country is becoming a lot more socially liberal, and that spewing hatred about gays, denying women the right to have abortions, etc.,…is not going over as well as it used to. They need to make some changes if they want to be competitive nationally.

This guy’s a lightweight. He conflates same-sex marriage with polygamy and bestiality; cross dressing with Satan worshiping… and yet, he doesn’t even have the decency to throw pedophilia in there somewhere. I’m disappointed.

So if the Christian Taliban wants to discriminate against gays, atheists, whatever, then can we discriminate against these same Christian Taliban? I think not.
