NO FLY ARIZONA

Why Jan Brewer Should Be Happy That Courts Won’t Allow Her To Discriminate Against Gays

In 2008, then-Arizona governor Janet Napolitano extended all state and university employee benefits to their domestic partners. Then Republican Jan Brewer became AZ’s governor in 2009 and the Republican-controlled Legislature passed a law specifically denying the benefits to unmarried partners of any gender.

Well the three-judge 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously ruled yesterday that the state cannot deny benefits to gay couples because they have no other way to receive those benefits in a state with a same-sex marriage ban.

While Brewer’s press aide says, “The court’s real motivation here is for the legalization of gay marriage,” offering domestic benefits will allow the state to court well-qualified gay employees who might otherwise not set foot in her racist state. She should be happy for at least that.

    The fear of heteros admitting that there are actual gay couples is astounding. They know we’re here, and they go running away like Ms. Muffet after the spider sat beside her at the very thought of it.

    @Jim Hlavac:

    True, that is why they fought so hard to keep the census from asking if you were in a same sex couple.

    Jan “the Klan” Brewer is disgusting.

    She reminds me of one of the jack-o-lanterns made from a pumpkin sitting on a porch a week after Halloween. She’s a ghoul.

    How did Arizona go from Napolitano to Brewer? I do not understand the Arizona voters. How can the public swing that radically?

    @PLAINTOM: When Obama picked Napolitano for DHS she was next in line for succession (I think she was lt. Gov.). Sadly though they officially elected her in 2010 to a full term.

    Ir’s amazing to me that a govenor can pass a law for same sex benefits only to have a new govenor and the Republican controlled government come in with a law to deny benefits. I wonder if what these Republicans would do if their civil rights were denied just becasue they are Republican? Food for thought.
    Arizona is the biggest joke in the Union!
