Potential gay sex scenes between Star Trek alum Zachary Quinto and misunderstood straight artist James Franco could soon become reality, as Variety reports that Quinto has been tapped to play Franco’s ex-boyfriend in the upcoming Michael Glatze biopic.
The film “Michael” is based on the New York Times article “My Ex-Gay Friend”, which tells the story of how Glatze became a poster child for the ex-gay movement after rejecting his sexuality and repenting for his life as a homosexual, during which he founded the homoerotic teen magazine XY.
“It’s actually a very relatable story about the power of belief and the desire to belong,” director Justin Kelly told Variety. The film, co-produced by Franco and the legendary Gus Van Sant, will also reportedly star American Horror Story‘s Emma Roberts.
Benoit Denizet-Lewis, author of the original Times article, told Variety: “I’m excited that everyone involved in this project is intent on telling a story that captures the full breadth of Michael’s unusual life, from the inspiring gay leader I knew when I was young to the Christian pastor he is today.”
Too bad Glatze left XY before Colton Haynes posed for its pages in “private, obscene, lewd and pornographic photographs” with his alleged ex-boyfriend. Now that would have made for a thoroughly enjoyable subplot.
