EXCLUSIVE: Tatianna Reveals The Origins Of Her Provocative Spoken Word Piece

Last night’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars had some jaw-dropping moments, both happy and sad. After Adore Delano decided to leave the competition, Alaska and Katya slayed the Snatch Game. The queen sent packing this week was the one-and-only Tatianna, the only queen to enter the competition from season two. Queerty’s Tim Winfred caught up with Tati to find out how she’s been since her elimination and find out what her future plans are.

Queerty: Emotions were high in last night’s episode. How have you been since the episode aired last night?

Tatianna: I’ve been fine. [Laughs] It was a high pressure situation so sometimes your emotions get the best of you, but I’m all good. I’ve had a bunch of positive feedback, so it’s nice to see that people wanted me there.

You sent out a suggestive tweet last night after your elimination that said “It’s all good!…trust” with a cryptic winky face. This tweet has left some fans believing that you will return later in the season. Hypothetically speaking, how would you feel if you did get to return for a second chance?

If I could return for a second chance, I would do it! Yeah! No doubt. The tweet was more about that I’m good, you know. I’m not still crying. [Laughs]

Being the only queen from an earlier season, why do you think RuPaul chose you to compete in All Stars 2?

I think he chose me to come back because I was top four! [Laughs] I was top four and I did pretty well for not knowing what the hell I was doing on season two. Like she said, she’s been watching our careers, watching our work and I’m good at what I’m doing… so I think that’s why she brought me back.

Nobody thought I was going to be there, but I knew I was going to be there.

If you could have cast an 11^th queen to compete on All Stars 2, who would that queen be?

I would have chosen Morgan McMichaels because they needed someone else from season two and she’s grown so much. She’s an awesome performer and all around good person.

After watching the episode, do you think Alaska made the right decision to eliminate you and how has your relationship with her evolved since then?

I guess. I mean, it’s hard to say… obviously I didn’t want to go home, so in that case no. I didn’t do well in the Snatch Game, I just did OK.

It hasn’t changed anything between us. I was a touch annoyed with her for like ten minutes, and then I was OK. We had to do it. We had to eliminate each other. That’s just what the game is.

If you had a chance to redo your Snatch Game performance, what would you have done differently?

I probably would have switched my character to Miley Cyrus because I packed her, I brought her, so I should have just done Miley. I wanted to show range though. I didn’t want to be another blonde pop star.

Your spoken word piece in the first episode showed a new side of you we didn’t get to see on season 2. What was your inspiration for “The Same Parts”?

I actually wrote that before season two. I wrote that when I was 16 or 17 and it was a rap. It was literally about me going to house parties in drag and dancing with dudes who didn’t know that I was a dude.

When they told us about the talent show, all the talents I have were already utilized by other queens. Dancing and performing are my talents, so I felt like maybe I should do something else. I’ll do something a little different. So at the last minute I decided to take this rap I wrote, take all the curse words out [Laughs], slow it down and make it a weird little poetry thing. And now I’m releasing it as a track on iTunes.

You’ve said in other interviews that you’ve been a huge fan of the show since the beginning. What season has been your favorite? Do you have an all-time favorite queen from the show?

I’d probably say season six. It had Adore, who I lived for. It had Laganja going a little bit crazy. It had Bianca, ya know, being herself. It was a really good, well-rounded pass. And I liked the challenges. That 90s rap challenge was everything. I would have used “The Same Parts” in that if I could have! [Laughs]

Everyone’s different and fun in their own way, so there’s no real way to rate the queens.

I have an Instagram fan question from Jack. He wants to know: If there were teams on this season of All Stars, who would you have wanted to partner with?

I would have either partnered with Adore Delano, because we get along really well and I like her point of view, or Katya because she’s alien. I think her and I working together would have been a nice balancing act of crazy and not so crazy. [Laughs]

Who are you rooting for to win All Stars season two?

If I had to choose… probably Katya. She’s very different. She puts a lot of thought into what she does, regardless of what it is. I don’t think we’ve had a winner that’s been like her. She’s very unique.

You have stayed fairly quiet since your time on season 2. Now that the show’s fan base has grown so much, what are your plans for the future?

I’m going to be traveling and seeing everything. I have Australia and London at the beginning of next year. Touring and coming from a place of “Yes,” where any and all opportunities that come my way I’m going to do it. So hopefully that will include music and fun stuff like that.
