Anyone who has discovered they’ve been catfished knows the uniquely uncomfortable feeling that comes with knowing you’ve sent personal information and/or revealing photos to an entirely anonymous liar.
Catfishing, for the uninitiated, is using a false identity to cultivate a relationship online. It’s so alarmingly simple to do, it’s just one of a laundry list of things to keep in mind whenever you delve into hookup/dating apps.

And while it’s clearly unethical at best and downright dangerous at worst, the fact that catfishing is so prevalent says something about the environment of apps like Grindr. If you don’t present a certain narrow way, rejection may feel overwhelmingly harsh.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Davey Wavey recently sat down with a former catfish to dig into what motivated him. Inexcusable as his actions may be, we can definitely empathize some of the contributing factors.

We must stop this cycle where we perpetuate the belief that only a certain type of person is attractive to the gay community. Gay men and women, like the human race, all look and think differently – and in that diversity comes the strength and resilience of our community. Never be with anyone who doesn’t let you be yourself (that includes your appearance), and know that You are worthy of happiness and love because you were born and because you are here. YOU ALONE ARE ENOUGH. Learn to love yourself, guys. If you don’t, you will never be able to love anyone else – or enable them to love you.

Oh please. I give you credit for clicking on the video before commenting. But according to his own explanation, he was a slightly overweight guy (apparently not obese, just slightly overweight) who for some inexplicable reason thought it was easier to blame the gay community for rejecting him, than to actually DO much of anything about being overweight. Sorry, that’s ridiculous.
“We must stop this cycle where we perpetuate the belief that only a certain type of person is attractive to the gay community.” Um, okay – why don’t you go first? Go ahead and “date” a fat guy on Grindr (which I must remind you is NOT actually a dating site, it’s a casual sleazy sex site) and pat yourself on the back for how open-minded you are.
The “gay community” as a whole is not dating/having sex with anyone; it is always individuals dating/having sex with individuals. At any rate, there ARE “chubby chasers” out there – lots of them!

I don’t believe this is happening. I mean on Grindr of all places.

I don’t sympathize with these people. My pictures get stolen all the time on Grindr and people will pretend to be me in tons of cities. I’ve even had bots use my old pictures from RealJock and the bots would go on Grindr trying to get people’s credit card numbers.
Stealing someone’s pictures can produce harm to the person whose pictures you are stealing.

I recommend people reverse image their pics once in a while. Same thing happened to me. They ended up in a tumbler under some heading of Grindr guys. Tried to get them to take it down but way too difficult so I gave up.

I’m just bummed that after all these many years, all the pix of my naked ass floating around in the ethosphere have YET to be used by a “catfish” or to appear on someone’s porn tumblr. 🙁

I don’t understand when people try to tell others that they should open there minds and be attracted to people other than they are attracted to. I don’t think you can really change your attractions. I wonder if this guy has sought out guys he is not attracted to because he considers them less attractive than him. Probably not.
That being said, there is a lot to be said for letting down people in a respectful humane way. Think of a few and always have them ready. It may be the nicest thing you can do for someone you are not attracted to.( i.e. I think you are handsome but I’m sorry I just don’t feel the attraction between us).

That’s why i never get upset when people use my photos. It is always some sad story behind. Nor i make a big of a deal about my nude photos. You want to see them? Take them? Use them? That will make you happy? Here you are.
I am not queen of England im not gonna lose my crown but someone will feel better for a moment. And that moment, however pathetic that sounds, is more than he have at that time.
I can only be grateful to god and nature that people want to see me naked and to use my pictures instead of theirs. I consider that nothing but flattering.

I know three guys that have done this. They go to tumblr and copy pics it’s creepy. Some guy used certain body parts of me and hit up guys on Grindr. Scary.

Why is this being treated as a mystery? Gay men only value guys who are hot, famous, or wealthy. Maybe he wants to feel what it’s like to be treated as a worthwhile human being for once.
If you treat someone like shit for who they are, don’t be all surprised and offended if they pretend to be different.

I know it is difficult for some of you to believe, but there are many of us who do not like what we look like. For myself, because of medical conditions, I gained a lot of weight and because of a long long time being a diabetic, I can no longer get hard. That really messes up the mind.
