Oh Oahu!

Hawaiian hunk Steve Whipple on the virtue of donuts as workout food

This post is part of a series of Queerty interviews with models, trainers, dancers, and, well, people who can inspire the rest of us to stay in shape.

Name: Steve Whipple, 45 (@whipfit)

Occupation, besides training: I teach yoga/spin/YouTube Channel & server at a restaurant for fun.

Home: On the island of Oahu, Hawaii

Favorite Gym: Maui Powerhouse Gym on Maui (used to work there)

Favorite Work Out Song: I teach Spin/Cycle & use that as my chance to prepare the setlist for class but man, I LOVE K-Pop!

Recommended Work-Out Foods: Protein Bar, scoop of peanut butter, Tofu on Rice cakes (sounds gross but so good) & not gonna lie, a little coffee & doughnut action goes a long way.

Favorite athletic outfit: I like tanks (American Apparel are faves) & shorter running shorts (not hot pants but not long board shorts) You’re working so hard on all this why cover it up?

How do you balance staying in shape and having fun? That IS the balance. To stay in shape you GOTTA make it fun. If not you’re NEVER gonna keep it up & it will fade. FUN is THE ONLY WAY!

Tip for staying in shape: Ask how to use a machine or for help. The gym is an intimidating place. So many times people leave because they don’t know how/what to do. Gym people love to talk about themselves (ha) they will almost always want to help someone learn.
